Student Assistant SQL Database and Reporting Support

• Current University of Florida undergraduate or graduate student.
• Coursework or practical experience with SQL and relational databases.
• Ability to write SQL queries for a complex, multi-table relational database.
• Familiarity with relational database concepts, including tables, primary and foreign keys, joins, filtering, grouping, and aggregate functions.

Primary Responsibilities

Database and SQL Reporting

• Review and become familiar with the structure, tables, fields, and relationships within an existing complex relational database.
• Use Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio (SSMS) to access, review, and query database information.
• Develop SQL queries involving multiple related tables, joins, filters, aggregations, and other database operations.
• Create reusable queries for recurring monthly, annual, and ad hoc reporting needs.
• Develop queries to retrieve and summarize historical information over specified date ranges.
• Assist with retrieving historical information regarding distribution of program materials and other program activities.
• Validate query results against available tracking records and known historical information.
• Troubleshoot discrepancies and identify potential data-quality or database-structure issues.
• Organize SQL queries into a documented query library that can be readily used or modified by T2 staff.
• Clearly document the purpose, parameters, output, and appropriate use of each query.
• Meet with T2 staff to understand reporting requirements and demonstrate how queries should be run.

Digital Accessibility and Web Content Support

Following completion of the initial database assignment, the student will have opportunities to assist with digital accessibility and web-based projects, including:

• Assist with identifying and remediating accessibility issues in web pages, PDFs, online training materials, and other digital content.
• Apply or learn appropriate remediation techniques consistent with ADA accessibility requirements and WCAG 2.1 standards.
• Assist with PDF accessibility remediation, including document structure, headings, reading order, alternative text, tables, links, and other accessibility elements.
• Assist with accessibility remediation and maintenance of content hosted on WordPress websites.
• Repackage and update the PERO training program in Moodle, including organization, formatting, and accessibility of course materials.
• Assist with accessibility remediation of the Helmet Fitter Refresher Video and associated materials.
• Review and remediate, or learn how to remediate, selected videos hosted on the T2 Center's YouTube channel, including captions, transcripts, and other accessibility elements.
• Assist with accessibility or content issues that may be identified within Destiny One or other systems used by the T2 Center.
• Document accessibility remediation procedures so common issues can be addressed consistently in future materials.
• Perform related database, technology, web, and digital accessibility tasks as assigned.

$18-$20 per hour

Experience with or knowledge of one or more of the following is preferred:

• Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio (SSMS).
• Developing complex SQL queries for reporting or data analysis.
• Working with existing or legacy relational databases where documentation may be limited.
• Analyzing database schemas and relationships across multiple tables.
• WordPress website administration or content management.
• Digital accessibility concepts and WCAG 2.1 standards.
• Familiarity with ADA-related digital accessibility requirements.
• PDF accessibility remediation or a willingness to learn PDF remediation techniques.
• Web accessibility remediation or a willingness to learn web accessibility techniques.
• Video accessibility, including YouTube captioning, transcripts, and remediation, or the ability and willingness to learn these processes.
• Moodle or another learning-management system, or the ability to quickly learn Moodle.
• HTML and basic web-development concepts.
• Microsoft Office and Adobe Acrobat accessibility tools.
• Python, R, Power BI, Tableau, Excel/Power Query, or similar data-analysis tools.

• Candidates are not expected to have experience in all of these areas. Applicants with strong SQL/database skills and demonstrated technical aptitude who are interested in developing expertise in digital accessibility are encouraged to apply.

  Initial Expected Deliverables

  The initial database assignment is expected to result in a documented library of reusable SQL queries addressing T2 Center reporting needs. Examples may include:

  • Monthly program reporting queries.
  • Historical distribution totals by item and date range.
  • Annual and multi-year summaries.
  • Queries for commonly requested program performance measures.
  • Parameterized queries that allow staff to change dates, programs, products, or other reporting criteria.
  • Documentation describing the purpose and use of each query.

  The goal is to create a sustainable reporting resource that allows T2 staff to retrieve commonly requested information without developing a new query each time.

  After completion of the initial database assignment, the student will support additional projects involving digital accessibility, WordPress, Moodle, PDFs, videos, and other online educational content.
