The Department of Advertising in the College of Journalism and Communications (CJC) at the University of Florida invites applications for a nine-month tenure-track Assistant Professor in AI and Advertising position to begin in Fall 2027. Candidates must have completed a Ph.D. in communication, mass communication, advertising, marketing, or a related field by the time of appointment.
We seek a scholar whose research makes a strong contribution to the field of advertising, with a focus on artificial intelligence and its implications for the industry, professional practice, and pedagogy. Relevant areas for research specialization include but are not limited to AI-mediated advertising and persuasion, human-AI interaction, generative AI, algorithmic and automated communication, AI-driven social media and consumer insights, and the broader implications of emerging technologies for consumers, brands, media, and society. This faculty member will work in partnership with UF’s Consortium on Trust in Media and Technology, which is based at CJC.
The Consortium connects scholars and thought leaders across disciplines to develop applications supporting media and technology that is credible and equitable. The Consortium’s work is part of UF’s commitment to artificial intelligence as the centerpiece of a major, long-term initiative combining world-class research infrastructure, cutting-edge research, and a transformational approach to curriculum. The successful candidate also will have opportunities to collaborate across the College and University on research related to artificial intelligence, emerging media technologies, consumer behavior, and strategic communication.
The successful candidate will be expected to teach undergraduate courses in the advertising curriculum and established graduate courses approved by CJC’s Graduate Division. They may also be given the opportunity to teach specialized course offerings such as AI and Advertising and AI-Driven Social Media Insight, as well as develop new courses in their area of expertise. The successful candidate will also mentor doctoral and master’s students and participate in service to the department, college, university, and discipline.
Candidates will be evaluated on the quality of their current research output and momentum, capacity for scholarly development and advancement, potential to cultivate a nationally and internationally acclaimed research agenda, and demonstrated contributions to teaching, mentorship, and interdisciplinary collaboration.
Candidates must have completed a Ph.D. in communication, mass communication, advertising, marketing, or a related field by the time of appointment; demonstrate a record of, or strong potential for, original scholarly research relevant to advertising and strategic communication; demonstrate a research program that substantially engages artificial intelligence or related emerging technologies; demonstrate potential to secure external research funding; and demonstrate the ability to contribute effectively to undergraduate and/or graduate teaching.
