Job Description:

The Department of Recreational Sports is currently looking for Lake Wauburg Associates to join our energetic team and move Gators toward lifelong wellbeing!

Associates serve the department by providing excellent customer service, managing equipment rentals, assisting at the boat launch, and supporting gatehouse operations.

Successful candidates will begin work at the start of Spring 2027.

RecSports Team Member Responsibilities

  • Develop professional relationships with co-workers, participants, and guests.
  • Uphold and exceed the expectations of the Cornerstones of RecSports Service: accountability, anticipating needs, attitude, and atmosphere.
  • Demonstrate a desire to learn and apply knowledge as a RecSports ambassador.
  • Take ownership of RecSports facilities and programs by exhibiting a responsible work ethic.
  • Promote and maintain cleanliness and appearance within and surrounding RecSports facilities.
  • Enforce RecSports policies and procedures to promote participant safety and satisfaction.
  • Respond to all emergency situations and adhere to established protocol including pre- and post- incident procedures.
  • All RecSports employees are expected to abide by the RecSports Student Staff Career Readiness Principles that clarifies shared expectations and standards in effort to best serve our patrons, develop each team member, and prepare student employees for future career endeavors.

Job Position Responsibilities

  • Provide high-quality customer service to patrons and guests.
  • Welcome patrons and manage facility access at the Gatehouse.
  • Answer incoming phone calls and respond to patron questions.
  • Assist patrons with checking out boats and equipment.
  • Provide safety briefings for boat rentals.
  • Assist patrons with loading and unloading boats at the boat launch.
  • Complete credit card transactions for facility access and boat rentals.
  • Reconcile credit card transactions accurately.
  • Perform headcounts and track daily patron usage.
  • Enforce park rules, regulations, and policies.
  • Promote patron safety and respond appropriately to emergencies.
  • Administer First Aid/CPR/AED in emergency situations.
  • Support Lake Wauburg special events and facility reservations.
  • Complete facility opening and closing duties.
  • Inspect facilities and equipment for unsafe conditions, remedy conditions when appropriate, and notify supervisors of concerns.
  • Perform routine maintenance and cleaning, including emptying trash, cleaning restrooms, and removing palm fronds and other debris.
  • Participate in departmental and unit-specific training.
  • Assist supervisors and professional staff with additional duties as assigned.

RecSports Fall Kick-Off 2027: Tuesday, August 17th 8am – 9:30am

  • Fall Kick-Off is our all-staff event to discuss department-wide updates, facilitate unit training sessions, as well as cultivate community and positive energy within our RecSports team. All RecSports Student Staff are expected to attend and will be paid for their training time.
Expected Salary:

$15.40 per hour

Required Qualifications:

Requirements/Qualifications

  • Reliable transportation to and from Lake Wauburg.
  • A valid driver’s license.
  • Valid First Aid/CPR/AED certification or the ability to obtain certification within the first 30 days of employment.
  • Availability to work 7–15 hours per week during operating hours, including weekdays, weekends, and potentially academic breaks.
  • Ability to attend mandatory staff meetings and in-service training.

This position is open to all students who are eligible to work on campus and will be employed through student Other Personnel Services (OPS) and must maintain a minimum 2.0 grade point average. Registered students are employed on a part-time basis, up to 20 hours per week.

*Note that Lake Wauburg is open over academic breaks and holidays and is open Wed. - Sun.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience in customer service, working at a waterfront or recreational facility.
