Job Description:

The Department of Recreational Sports is currently looking for Lake Wauburg Challenge Course Facilitators to join our energetic team and move Gators toward lifelong wellbeing!

Facilitators serve the department by leading experiential team-building activities on both land and in the air that promote, enhance, and support the development of healthy group relationships. Duties include facilitating low and high ropes course activities, and leading on and off-site programs.

Successful candidates will begin work at the start of Spring 2027.

RecSports Team Member Responsibilities

  • Develop professional relationships with co-workers, participants, and guests.
  • Uphold and exceed the expectations of the Cornerstones of RecSports Service: accountability, anticipating needs, attitude, and atmosphere.
  • Demonstrate a desire to learn and apply knowledge as a RecSports ambassador.
  • Take ownership of RecSports facilities and programs by exhibiting a responsible work ethic.
  • Promote and maintain cleanliness and appearance within and surrounding RecSports facilities.
  • Enforce RecSports policies and procedures to promote participant safety and satisfaction.
  • Respond to all emergency situations and adhere to established protocol including pre- and post- incident procedures.
  • All RecSports employees are expected to abide by the RecSports Student Staff Career Readiness Principles that clarifies shared expectations and standards in effort to best serve our patrons, develop each team member, and prepare student employees for future career endeavors.

Job Position Responsibilities

  • Provide high-quality customer service.
  • Facilitate activities to promote and enhance individual and group teamwork, development, and wellness.
  • Must participate and demonstrate proficient skills in Low and High Course training, including high ropes course rescues.
  • Provide pre-course safety briefings.
  • Assist with set up, take down, opening, closing, cleaning, and other duties as directed.
  • Ability to lead and speak to large groups of people, maintaining professionalism in all situations.
  • Responsible for consistent supervision of challenge course participants throughout entire course.
  • Responsible for managing risk and promoting well-being of participants, teammates, and self.
  • Support Lake Wauburg special events and facility reservations.
  • Develop professional relationships with co-workers, participants, and guests.
  • Administer First Aid/CPR/AED in an emergency.
  • Enforce rules, regulations and policies.
  • Inspect facilities and equipment for unsafe conditions, remedy the condition, and or notify supervisors.
  • Participate in departmental and unit training.
  • Assist supervisors and professional staff with additional duties as assigned.

RecSports Fall Kick-Off 2027: Tuesday, August 17th 8am – 9:30am

  • Fall Kick-Off is our all-staff event to discuss department-wide updates, facilitate unit training sessions, as well as cultivate community and positive energy within our RecSports team. All RecSports Student Staff are expected to attend and will be paid for their training time.
Expected Salary:

$15.65 per hour

Required Qualifications:

Requirements/Qualifications

  • Comfortable working ~30 feet in the air.
  • Reliable transportation to and from Lake Wauburg.
  • A valid driver’s license.
  • Valid First Aid/CPR/AED certification or the ability to obtain certification within the first 30 days of employment.
  • Availability to work 5–12 hours per week during operating hours, including weekdays, weekends, and potentially academic breaks.
  • Ability to attend mandatory staff meetings and in-service training.

This position is open to all students who are eligible to work on campus and will be employed through student Other Personnel Services (OPS) and must maintain a minimum 2.0 grade point average. Registered students are employed on a part-time basis, up to 20 hours per week and additional hours with an approved Hours Extension Form.

Preferred:

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience in customer service.
  • Previous experience facilitating teambuilding, low and high ropes courses.
  • Professional or personal experience climbing and/or belaying.
