Job Description:

The Opportunity

The Student Health Care Center (SHCC) at the University of Florida is seeking a Clinical Coder III. Reporting to the Coding and Reimbursement Supervisor, this position serves as a senior member of the SHCC Coding team and is responsible for optimizing billing performance through accurate, compliant, and efficient coding practices.  The Clinical Coder III will educate providers on appropriate coding requirements, resolve claim rejections, and apply a thorough knowledge of anatomy, medical terminology, payer coding and billing requirements, and UF College of Medicine and UF Health policies and procedures. This position will also collaborate with the SHCC Quality Officer and Compliance Office on auditing requirements and participate in continuing education to remain current on compliant coding methods that support accurate coding and maximum reimbursement.

The key responsibilities of the position include the following:

CHARGE ENTRY/REVIEW

Review clinic charges in EMR work queues daily, ensuring CPT and ICD-10 for accuracy and resolving all claim edits.  Review chart notes to optimize E/M level, procedures and apply payer policy for bundling.  Follow up on incomplete/missing charges. Meet with the Supervisor and/or Assistant Director to review individual provider performance and coding issues.

CHART REVIEW

Perform clinic chart reviews to provide results to the clinical team supervisors and provide feedback to the clinical team on documentation improvement.  Collaborate with coders and billing staff on coding updates, reimbursement and compliance improvement strategies.  Act as a point of contact for coding questions and guidance.

EDUCATION AND CODING COMPLIANCE

Research coding issues through all available resources, including but not limited to professional associations, federal and private payer guidelines, and coding networks.  Keep abreast of annual coding updates.  Provides education to providers in regards to documentation, reimbursement and compliance. Provides feedback to providers regarding billing and coding questions and works with providers to resolve these questions to ensure accurate coding. 

CLAIMS & REIMBURSEMENT MANAGEMENT

Reviews clinic reimbursement reports and track payments/denials and resolve issues delaying reimbursement.  Utilize charge entry edits and payor denials as tools to provide additional education and suggest front-end workflow strategies to ensure clean claims. 

 Typical Schedule:

  • 8 am to 5 pm daily (Monday through Friday) and one-hour lunch during Fall and Spring semesters.
  • 8 am to 4:30 pm daily (Monday through Friday) with a one-half hour lunch during Summer semesters.
  • Remote work may be available.

Expected Salary:

$28.74 - $31.13 per hour

Full-time TEAMS employees will accrue vacation leave at a rate of 6.769 hours biweekly/22 days annually and sick leave at a rate of 4 hours biweekly/13 days annually. In addition, employees are eligible for ten paid holidays each year.

Required Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of CPT, HCPCS, and ICD-10
