The Opportunity
Are you passionate about technology, problem-solving, and supporting services that make a difference in people’s lives? The UF Student Health Care Center is looking for an IT Generalist I to join our Student Life Technology Services team. In this role, you’ll provide technical support and systems administration for clinical care, pharmacy services, and administrative operations. You’ll work with end user computing, departmental directories, endpoint administration, Microsoft 365, Active Directory, Group Policy, Microsoft Entra ID, and Microsoft Intune to keep SHCC technology reliable, secure, and running smoothly. Your day-to-day will involve investigating and resolving technical issues, evaluating user needs, implementing approved solutions, documenting your work, and supporting technology projects. You’ll collaborate with SHCC leadership, SLTS, UFIT, UF Health IT, the EPIC EHR Specialist, and vendors to protect confidential information and minimize disruptions to patient care. This is a great opportunity for someone who enjoys working independently, providing responsive customer service, and applying technical expertise in a collaborative, mission-focused environment.
Technical support and clinical technology operations
Provide onsite and remote support for desktops, laptops, mobile devices, printers, scanners, telephony, and related peripherals. Diagnose hardware, operating system, application, authentication, and connectivity problems; resolve routine and moderately complex incidents using independent technical judgment. Prioritize requests by clinical and operational impact, document troubleshooting in TeamDynamix, and coordinate escalations through resolution. Support workstation access to Epic Hyperdrive/Citrix, document scanning and eFax, dictation tools, pharmacy applications, and connected clinical peripherals in coordination with application owners and vendors. Validate restored service with users; refer application build, clinical configuration, and specialized equipment changes to authorized owners.
Active Directory and cloud endpoint administration
Administer SL/SHCC Active Directory OUs, computer objects, authorized user and security group changes, and departmental access permissions within delegated rights. Configure, test, maintain, and troubleshoot departmental Group Policy Objects (GPOs), including policy inheritance, filtering, application, and conflicts; coordinate shared or centrally managed policies with SLTS and UFIT. Use delegated Microsoft Intune permissions to enroll and configure devices, deploy approved applications and configuration profiles, monitor compliance, and resolve endpoint management issues. Use delegated Microsoft Entra ID permissions to manage authorized group membership and device records and troubleshoot identity and access issues. Maintain approved endpoint security settings, encryption, patches, and configuration standards. Document, test, and implement changes with appropriate approval and rollback procedures.
Microsoft 365 services and employee access lifecycle
Support Microsoft 365 (Office 365), including Outlook, Teams, OneDrive, and SharePoint. Troubleshoot synchronization, file access, sharing, collaboration, and user profile issues; assist with approved migrations from legacy storage and profiles to OneDrive and other supported services. Coordinate onboarding, role changes, and separation tasks with supervisors, the departmental DSA, and system owners. Prepare devices, verify authorized access, assist with initial sign-in and multifactor authentication, and arrange timely access removal and equipment recovery. Apply least privilege and approved data handling practices; provide user guidance and confirm successful setup.
Technology projects and service improvement
Evaluate user needs and assist with planning and implementation of operating system upgrades, equipment refreshes, office relocations, clinical outreach technology, and alignment with SLTS and UFIT standards. Independently complete assigned project components, pilot proposed configurations, test application and peripheral compatibility, document results, and coordinate deployment schedules with affected teams. Diagnose network connectivity and coordinate infrastructure changes with responsible teams. Recommend practical improvements to support workflows and use approved scripting or automation tools to make recurring administrative tasks more consistent and efficient.
Asset management documentation and user education
Maintain accurate hardware and software inventory, device assignment, lifecycle, and support records in designated systems. Coordinate vendor troubleshooting, warranty repairs, replacements, and approved equipment disposal or reuse, including required data sanitization. Assist with technical specifications and equipment recommendations for purchasing. Develop and maintain procedures, configuration records, knowledge articles, and user tip sheets. Provide individual or small-group training on supported tools and encourage use of the Student Life IT Helpdesk and established support processes.
Additional related IT responsibilities
Perform other related technical duties assigned by the SHCC IT Manager in support of clinical and administrative operations. Provide cross-coverage, participate in incident response and service recovery within assigned authority, and assist with approved security reviews and remediation activities.
Typical Schedule:
- Monday through Friday, 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., with a meal period and a normal 40-hour workweek.
- Hours may vary with clinic operations, scheduled maintenance, deployments, and service disruptions.
- Occasional evening or weekend work and local travel to supported locations or outreach activities may be required with supervisory coordination.
