The Development Operations Manager serves as a partner to the Senior Vice Chancellor for Development in the management of the office, business processes, and continuity cross-departmentally. The individual in this role will be the point person for inquiries to the development office and serves as the development liaison to other departments within advancement. This role also oversees a team of development coordinators who assist the front-line fundraising team and establishes best practices for administrative support across the development team.

Duties

  • Serve as an ambassador for the Senior Vice Chancellor for Development, acting with tact, diplomacy, and discretion on a variety of complex and sensitive issues. Develop and send special correspondence to prominent donors and friends of the University on behalf of the Senior Vice Chancellor. Maintain relationships with prospective donors, donors, members of various Pepperdine boards, and public figures, representing the Senior Vice Chancellor with high professionalism. Plan, execute, and oversee events that involve the Senior Vice Chancellor and the development team. Keep detailed records of all contacts and help plan follow-up strategies with constituents. 
  • Manage various projects and high-level tasks that are of high priority to the Senior Vice Chancellor for Development and the development team, including the creation of long and short-term plans, execution, and appropriate follow-through, developing and enforcing best practices, and promoting continuity and consistency in all business procedures.
  • Supervise Advancement's team of development coordinators and establish best practices for administrative processes across the development team. Assign work and ensure appropriate support is provided to each of the front-line fundraisers. 
  • Create presentations and assist with benchmarking, analyses, and reports to guide strategic direction as needed. Plan and execute front-line fundraiser meetings, partnering with the Senior Vice Chancellor to prepare data and prospect reports for strategy meetings. 
  • Independently responsible for managing the Senior Vice Chancellor for Development's calendar based on their needs and priorities. Use judgment to determine urgency and necessity regarding the Senior Vice Chancellor's calendar, and act in their place as appropriate. 
  • Manage various assigned projects, i.e. running front-line fundraiser queries and finalizing donor proposals and GDS forms for gifts closed by the Vice Chancellor. 
  • Manage and note all incoming telephone calls to the Vice Chancellor's office. Review and sort incoming mail and propose responses when appropriate. 
  • Establish excellent working relationships with key members of the Senior Vice Chancellor's staff.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Skills and Qualifications

Required: Bachelor’s degree; knowledge of advancement practices and language; experience working in a fast-paced, high volume environment; excellent people skills; high level of trustworthiness and reliability; excellent communication/public relations skills in person, on the phone, and via email; strong identification with the mission of Pepperdine University.

Preferred: Experience in managing a team of two or more individuals; Proficiency in PeopleSoft, Raiser’s Edge, and Google Suite.

This is a Regular, Nonexempt, 40 hour per week position.

Expected Pay Range: $31.37 - $34.85 per hour

The above pay range reflects what Pepperdine University reasonably expects to pay for this position at time of posting. Actual compensation may vary based on relevant factors such as work experience, market conditions, education/training, and skill level. In addition to base pay, Pepperdine offers a robust and highly competitive benefits package.
