This role will provide career coaching for the students at Graziadio Business School, with the ability to support students in their early career, pivoting careers and mid/senior levels. Required are superior customer service skills while maintaining a professional demeanor, upholding confidentiality, and ability to independently problem solve and manage conflict. This position works directly with students and helps to guide them on their search for their future careers, provides resources and tools, and seeks out ways of building networks and career opportunities. Knowledge of career paths in demand by graduate business students is beneficial, as is the ability to independently reach out to employers to increase opportunities and grow the reputation of the business schools as the place to go for talent solutions. This person empowers students to lead lives of service, purpose, and leadership.

Duties

  • Coaching Services: Coach and communicate with students about their career planning and job search preparation, develop students' mindset and skill set to effectively and proactively execute job search strategies, enhance fluency in approaching/interacting/interviewing with employers, increase networking and targeting of potential opportunities, and increase job placement outcomes.
  • Employer Outreach: Communicate and connect with employers and alumni to build professional relationships with the ultimate goal of sourcing internships and full time job opportunities for students. Support and sustain new relationships on an ongoing basis working in conjunction with the Employer Engagement and Alumni Relations. 
  • Program Development: Develop program offerings and special projects that enhance the services of the Career Office, and enhance student participation throughout their time at Graziadio. 
  • Perform other duties as assigned in support of ongoing initiatives for the Career and Professional Development group, including building strong cross-functional relationships and synergy with other departments and staff throughout PGBS. 
  • Uphold University mission through work performed.

Skills and Qualifications

Required: Bachelor’s Degree in business, counseling, or related. MBA, Masters Degree in business, counseling, or related. One year of experience in higher education. Counseling of students in an academic environment. Design, development and leading workshops. Proficiency utilizing Microsoft Office, Google, database management software.

Preferred: 3-5 years professional experience in coaching or in a business function. Previous experience working in an academic advising environment. Experience with Master’s level business students, Mandarin language skills a plus. Able to lift lightweight packages, able to sit at a desk for a long period of time. Have high energy. Career coaching/counseling in a graduate business school or other similar academic/higher education setting. Experience working with university career services platforms such as Handshake.

This is a Regular, Exempt, 40 hour per week position.

Expected Pay Rate: $66,560 per year 

The above pay range reflects what Pepperdine University reasonably expects to pay for this position at time of posting. Actual compensation may vary based on relevant factors such as work experience, market conditions, education/training, and skill level. In addition to base pay, Pepperdine offers a robust and highly competitive benefits package.
