The Visiting Professor of Education and Leadership will teach primarily in the PhD in Global Leadership and Change (PHD), EdD in Organizational Leadership (EDOL), and Master’s in Social Entrepreneurship and Change (SEC) programs. The professor will teach across multiple programs designed to empower professionals with the knowledge, skills, and experience to drive meaningful change in their fields—whether through research-driven policy, transformative leadership, or innovative social enterprise solutions. These programs prepare students for careers in leadership, global leadership, international and comparative educational leadership, higher education, change management, learning technologies, PK-12 leadership, and social entrepreneurship/enterprise. These aims are consistent with the mission of Pepperdine University to prepare students for lives of service, purpose, and leadership. The primary responsibility of the Visiting Professor of Education and Leadership position is to teach courses across programs (e.g., PGLC, EDOL, MSED, SEC) in the Education Division. 

Duties

  • 80% time spent teaching in the education division programs. Teaching may also include chairing dissertation candidates.
  • 20% time spent attending faculty and divisional meetings; serving on division, school, and/or university committees (including dissertations); participation in other division, school, and/or university events.
  • Regular communication with program chairs and course leads of classes taught to ensure up-to-date and timely implementation of course-related content, assignments, and policies.
  • Participation in service and leadership activities at the department and university levels (e.g., school, division, University standing and ad-hoc committees).
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Uphold the University mission through work performed.

Skills and Qualifications

Required:

A terminal degree (PhD or EdD) in Doctorate degree in Education, Leadership, HIgher Education, Business Administration, International Policy and Development, Global Leadership and Change, Global Leadership, Management, Foreign Policy, Strategy & Innovation, Comparative Education & Cross-Cultural Leadership, Sustainable Development & Social Impact, Governance and Diplomacy, International/Foreign Relations, Political Science, or a closely related field; Learning Management System (LMS) experience; fluency with digital technologies and tools for teaching and learning; residing in the southern California area; demonstrated record of excellence in teaching, and service; attention and commitment to diversity; demonstrated record of public and/or private sector leadership experience; excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills; exceptional attention to detail, strong organization and time management skills, and the ability to perform routine and non-routine work with changing priorities; sound problem-solving and decision-making abilities, both as an independent entity and as part of a team; proficiency with video conferencing technology.

Preferred:

At least 2 years previous experience in teaching on-ground and hybrid courses at the graduate level in education; experience with technology-enhanced learning and blended learning environments; at least 2 years of current industry experience; active engagement in scholar-practitioner work demonstrating strong grounding in area scholarship and application in real world settings; experiencing in supervising or participating as a committee member in the dissertation research; record of service and leadership to community and/or professional organizations; familiarity with relevant field-specific licensure, credentialing guidelines, and regulations as they pertain to graduate training. Experience teaching courses in those similar to PHD curriculum, EDOL curriculum,  SEC curriculum, and MSED curriculum is desirable.

This is a Full-Time, Exempt, 40 hour per week position.

Expected Pay Range: $70,000 - $75,000 per year

The above pay range reflects what Pepperdine University reasonably expects to pay for this position at time of posting. Actual compensation may vary based on relevant factors such as work experience, market conditions, education/training, and skill level. In addition to base pay, Pepperdine offers a robust and highly competitive benefits package.
