The Mobile App Developer is responsible for the development and growth of the mobile app presence for Pepperdine University. As part of Integrated Marketing Communications, this position will develop and oversee the Flutter based app developed and used for the Pepperdine Unified Mobile app and other specialized applications. The mobile app developer provides additional technological support to the web-based technology operations of the University that drive recruitment, fundraising, and community engagement.

This role will interact directly with internal customers to understand business needs and software requirements, create proof-of-concepts, and build production-quality programming code. The mobile app developer will use their mobile app development skills to support Pepperdine’s mobile platforms across the University. Major systems and initiatives involving this position include mobile app administration, mobile development, and web management and support. This position reports to the Associate Director of Development.

Integrated Marketing Communications is directly tasked with supporting the University's mission and strategic plan by building brand equity, elevating the University's national reputation, providing strong and consistent institutional message leadership, and implementing effective integrated marketing and communication strategies. The Flutter mobile app developer fulfills a central role in helping the department accomplish its goals. Pepperdine is seeking candidates deeply committed to contributing to the University’s Christian mission and values.

Duties

  • Mobile Application Coding and Development -
    • Knowledge of the development and deployment of cross-platform native (iOS and Android) and web applications.
    • Understanding of mobile application best practices, architecture, testing. Familiarity with Agile/Scrum concepts and experience working in an Agile environment.
    • Experience in RESTful APIs and authentication methods.
    • Experience in creating both iOS and Android apps. Collaborate with various internal and external stakeholders to integrate third-party web applications into the Pepperdine unified mobile app. 
  • Mobile Platform Management -
    • Oversee the current Pepperdine mobile app and improve the current mobile app’s engagement with prospects, students, faculty, staff, and alumni. 
  • Core Web Platforms-
    • Serve as secondary support for core web platforms including OU Campus CMS, AWS web servers, MySQL and MongoDb databases. 
  • Customer/Constituent Support-
    • Troubleshoot and provide innovative solutions for digital initiatives.
  • Reporting and Analytics-
    • Create, synthesize, and distribute performance reports for IMC digital marketing projects. 
  • Documentation and Training-
    • Document IMC digital marketing processes, best practices, and provide training as needed. 
  • Communications-
    • Promote system and best practice adoption. Advocate for Pepperdine's core digital marketing platforms. 
  • Research-
    • Stay current with industry trends including best practices in mobile, mobile platforms, and web development.
    • Inform stakeholders on required changes.

Skills and Qualifications

Required:

  • A bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
  • Five or more years of experience in mobile application development.
  • Four or more years of experience in Flutter, Dart, MongoDB, NestJS, PostgreSQL, Firebase and Google Cloud Console.
  • Three or more years of experience with version control systems and deployment using Git, BitBucket, and Jira.
  • Ability to work independently and on schedule.
  • Experience with Photoshop.

Preferred:

  • Strong understanding of mobile UI/UX design principles.
  • Experience with RESTful APIs, JSON, and third-party integrations.
  • Proven experience in developing and deploying mobile applications for iOS and Android.
  • Knowledge of native development tools for iOS (Xcode) and Android (Android Studio).
  • Demonstrated ability to lead small development projects, discuss project requirements with vendors, and meet time sensitive deadlines.
  • Experience in higher education mobile applications. Experience using Modo Labs platforms a major plus.

This is a Restricted, Exempt, 40 hour per week position that may be eligible for remote or hybrid work in accordance with the University Policy Manual.

Expected Pay Range: $68,640 - $69,900 per year 

The above pay range reflects what Pepperdine University reasonably expects to pay for this position at time of posting. Actual compensation may vary based on relevant factors such as work experience, market conditions, education/training, and skill level. In addition to base pay, Pepperdine offers a robust and highly competitive benefits package.
