The Associate Director, Facilities Logistics at Pepperdine University is responsible for optimizing warehouse space and managing the efficient storage and inventory of materials, surplus items, and supplies. This role plays a key part in maintaining operational excellence and advancing the University's strategic goals, ensuring that warehousing operations are cost-effective, well-organized, and responsive to the needs of various departments. The Associate Director will oversee a team of 8-15 staff members, manage procurement practices, and oversee inventory sourcing to support the University’s objectives.
Duties
- Warehouse Optimization & Space Utilization: Lead efforts to maximize the use of available warehouse and storage space for inventory and surplus items, implementing strategies to improve organization and accessibility. Conduct regular assessments of storage and inventory needs, developing strategies to meet the evolving requirements of the University. Oversee the design and layout of the Malibu storage vaults and the Malibu and Calabasas warehouses, to ensure a safe, efficient, and orderly environment that supports the University's mission.
- Staff Management & Leadership: Supervise, train, and mentor a team to ensure productivity, adherence to safety standards, and high levels of customer service. Foster a culture of collaboration, accountability, and continuous improvement within the team. Provide guidance on workflow, performance expectations, and day-to-day operations.
- Inventory Control & Surplus Management: Develop and implement best practices for inventory management, ensuring that all materials are accurately tracked, inventoried, and properly stored, in adherence with all applicable codes and regulations. Oversee the receipt, storage, and distribution of University supplies, materials, and surplus items. Oversee the monitoring of inventory levels, recommend reordering, and track item usage to prevent overstocking or shortages.
- Procurement & Supply Sourcing: Collaborate with the Director to implement cost-effective procurement practices, including sourcing and negotiating with suppliers. Ensure that all purchasing activities adhere to University policies and budget constraints while maintaining high quality standards. Evaluate vendor performance, recommending adjustments or changes as necessary to optimize procurement efficiency and cost savings.
- Operational Excellence & Strategic Alignment: Help develop and execute strategic plans to enhance storage, warehouse, utilities management and customer service operations, aligning with the University's operational and fiscal goals. Implement and maintain financial controls to ensure the cost-effective use of resources and adherence to budgeted allocations. Utilize financial systems and reporting tools to track costs, forecast needs, and provide data-driven insights. Implement strategies to improve customer service efficiency, including response time, issue resolution, and communication protocols. Monitor and analyze electricity and gas usage data to identify areas for conservation and cost savings. Develop energy efficiency initiatives to optimize utility consumption and reduce operational expenses.
- Safety & Compliance: Ensure compliance with all safety regulations, University policies, and legal requirements related to warehouse operations. Conduct regular safety audits and training for staff to maintain a safe and efficient working environment.

Skills and Qualifications
Required:
- Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, Logistics, or a related field.
- 5+ years of experience in warehouse operations, inventory management, or a related field, including at least two years in a supervisory or management role.
- Familiarity with warehouse management software (WMS), computerized maintenance management system (CMMS) and inventory tracking tools.
- Strong knowledge of best practices in warehousing, inventory control, and space optimization.
- Proven ability to manage procurement processes, negotiate with vendors, and optimize supply sourcing.
- Solid understanding of financial systems and experience managing budgets, cost control, and reporting.
- Excellent organizational, communication, and leadership skills.
- Proficiency in MS-Outlook, Word, Excel, and Adobe Acrobat.
- Intermediate level skills in MS Project and other project management program(s).
Preferred:
- Experience in a higher education or public sector environment.
- At least five years in a supervisory or management role. Certification in warehouse management, logistics (e.g., APICS, CLM, or similar), or data analytics.

This is a Regular, Exempt, 40 hour per week position.
Expected Pay Range: $104,668 - $115,000 per year
The above pay range reflects what Pepperdine University reasonably expects to pay for this position at time of posting. Actual compensation may vary based on relevant factors such as work experience, market conditions, education/training, and skill level.
