Under the general supervision of the Director of Student Success, this position implements best practices in tutoring across Seaver College and advancing services that promote student success, retention, and graduation. These objectives are achieved by developing new initiatives or enhancing existing programs in support of improving student academic preparedness, enhancing systemic support for underrepresented student populations, and providing professional development in learning strategies. The role includes supervising a staff of approximately 60-70 part-time student employees and coordinating the SSC Proctoring Service.
Duties
- Coordinate tutoring program operations, planning, and logistics for all tutoring activities, including training, outreach, scheduling, and other administrative tasks for the program.
- Promote excellence in department personnel through recruitment, selection, evaluation, and promotion of professional development for student employees.
- Collect and assess data on tutoring usage and efficacy; write reports analyzing usage trends.
- Communicate with faculty, program coordinators, and staff from across the University, acting as a liaison between the Student Success Center (SSC) and the campus community.
- Maintain International Tutor Training Program Certification (ITTPC) through College Reading and Learning Association (CRLA).
- Coordinate the SSC Proctoring Service, including faculty outreach, exam planning, and execution for all exams proctored by the SSC. Train and schedule graduate assistants to ensure exams are administered in accordance with SSC Proctoring protocols and FERPA regulations.
- Oversee branding, promotion, and marketing strategies for tutoring, learning skills workshops, and other academic support programs.
- Develop and update training resources for academic tutors and other student employees. Develop resources that advance student learning and academic success.
- Compile and present an annual report of tutoring and academic support programming and services, including quantitative and qualitative information related to assessment of student learning and development.
- Oversee an effective system of evaluation and assessment of Student Success Center (SSC) programs and services, wherever offered and however delivered.
- Problem-solve and manage sensitive information with appropriate awareness of FERPA standards; maintain confidentiality and sensitivity to the privacy needs of students.
- Create messaging for the SSC, including newsletters, emails, video slideshows, and other materials.
- Engage in effective professional development, professional activities, and/or research to stay current with and anticipate changes in higher education and student retention strategies.
- Perform other duties as assigned.

Skills and Qualifications
Required:
- Bachelor’s degree in Education, or other appropriate field, and two years of directly related experience in a higher education setting.
- Experience providing tutoring/academic support services at the college level.
- Experience working with underrepresented students and promoting student success.
- Experience with FERPA and ethical principles in working with tutors and students.
- Understand and carry out Pepperdine's mission and strategic agendas, including learning outcomes, cultural competency, and diversity.
- Communicate sensitive and/or complex information in a confidential and straightforward manner.
- Ability to organize, prioritize, and handle multiple tasks to meet established deadlines.
- Google Suite.
Preferred:
- Master’s degree in Education, or other appropriate field, or equivalent experience.
- Experience in and understanding of best practices in tutoring, academic support services, peer education, and other retention programs.
- Experience collecting and interpreting data in order to produce and maintain reports of student success related programs, activities, and outcomes.
- Knowledge of learning theories and best practices for supporting student success.
- Experience developing, coordinating, and implementing student retention efforts and high impact practices designed to improve undergraduate retention and graduation rates.
- EAB Navigate Student Success Collaborative; Student Information Systems (PeopleSoft); Adobe Illustrator, Canva, or other graphic design programs.

This is a Regular, Nonexempt, 40 hour per week position.
Expected Pay Range: $25.09 - $27.88 per hour
The above pay range reflects what Pepperdine University reasonably expects to pay for this position at time of posting. Actual compensation may vary based on relevant factors such as work experience, market conditions, education/training, and skill level.
