The Specialist, Moving and Setup, is responsible for managing and moving university property, furniture, and equipment. This includes arranging equipment and furniture for moving projects and event setups across the Malibu, Calabasas, satellite, and graduate campuses.

Duties

  • Moving & Logistics: Provide moving services for university business-related moves, utilizing professional equipment to handle furnishings and equipment safely and securely. This includes coordinating with outside vendors for large event setups and assisting with picking up materials for shipping. 
  • Event Setup: Assist the Setup Crew by placing and arranging furniture for university events. 
  • Record Keeping: Track the intake and completion of all work requests using a computerized system. 
  • Coordination: Work with the Customer Service Specialist and Manager to implement work requests, resolve customer service issues, and process freight problems and claims.
  • Mail Services: Assist the Mail Services team as needed. 
  • Equipment Operation: Safely operate forklifts, pallet jacks, and other material handling equipment. This role requires operating university-owned trucks, vans, and computers. 
  • Mission: Uphold the university's mission and the Living Pepperdine standards in all day-to-day work. 
  • Teamwork: Work collaboratively with team members. 
  • Service: Approach work as a service ambassador to the community with a positive attitude. 
  • Uphold University mission through work performed.

Skills and Qualifications

Required:

  • High school diploma or two years of professional schooling.
  • One to two years of experience in professional delivery, moving furniture/equipment, or using a computerized work request system.
  • Demonstrable experience with material handling equipment is required.
  • Ability to lift and move up to 100 lbs. over a short distance.
  • Ability to demonstrate good English verbal and written skills required.
  • Knowledge of safety standards in a materials handling environment.
  • Full manual dexterity for the operation of University trucks/vehicles and material handling equipment.
  • Ability to operate University-owned and operated trucks, vans, forklifts, pallet jacks, and computers.

Preferred:

  • Good driving record with current California class "B" driver's license
  • Ability to work in a noisy environment and drive for long periods of time.
  • Good at working in a team environment.
  • Forklift certified.
  • MS Office: Word, Excel and Adobe Acrobat.
  • General understanding of Google Mail and Calendar.

This is a Regular, Nonexempt, 40 hour per week position.

Expected Pay Rate: $21.63 per hour 

The above pay range reflects what Pepperdine University reasonably expects to pay for this position at time of posting. Actual compensation may vary based on relevant factors such as work experience, market conditions, education/training, and skill level. In addition to base pay, Pepperdine offers a robust and highly competitive benefits package.
