Job Summary/Basic Function:
The Gordon Institute for Advanced Study seeks a part-time dynamic and experienced Communications Specialist to support its needs with an emphasis on growing brand awareness, online presence, message consistency, and targeted reach. The Communications Specialist will collaborate with Gordon Institute leadership to create a Strategic Communications Plan, and will be responsible for its execution. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in communications, web management, digital marketing, and content creation; with a proven track record of enhancing user experience and driving online audience engagement. This role will require work approximately 12 hours per week.

CHARACTERISTIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Collaborate with leadership to create the Strategic Communications Plan for the Institute's mission, vision and goals
  • Recommend effective strategies to increase audience reach and engagement across key user dates (e.g., scientists, faculty, students, practitioners, leaders of community organizations) and outlets such as website and social media platforms (e.g., LinkedIn, Facebook, X, Instagram)
  • Identify and monitor Objectives and Key Results (OKRs) and Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) to evaluate the Plan’s effectiveness and improve performance
  • Develop and maintain the communications calendar
  • Collaborate with staff on creation of content for the Institute’s communications needs, including, but not limited to, brand awareness, media presence, message consistency, targeted reach, event promotion, and website updates
  • Draft communications, ensuring consistency across diverse media outlets
  • Create high quality graphics that relate to published communications
  • Oversee the execution of the Strategic Communications Plan in different social media platforms
  • Update Institute’s presence in social media platforms and develop a calendar of activity for each platform
  • Develop and execute a plan to maintain the Institute’s website, according to industry standards and best practices (e.g., responsive design, security, accessibility, search engine optimization) 
  • Monitor website performance, troubleshoot issues, and implement improvements to enhance user experience
  • Work with developers and designers to update website features and functionalities, as needed
  • Collaborate in the development of materials for specific projects/events (e.g., flyers, posters, etc.)

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Marketing, Digital Media, or a related field (or equivalent experience)
  • 1-2 years of experience as a Media Producer, Social Media Manager, Website Manager, or similar role
  • Background in communications, web management, digital marketing, and/or content creation

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with social media management tools and analytics platforms (e.g., Google Analytics).
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficient in graphic creation software (e.g., Canva)
  • Creative thinker with strong attention to detail and the ability to work independently
  • Experience in driving online audience engagement

Salary Range:

$46 - $49 per hour
