Risk Manager

Apply now Job no: 1064
Work type: 38 HOUR WK - NOT ROSTERED
Location: SUNSHINE COAST
Categories: Enterprise Risk Compliance and Assurance

You’ll love this role if you enjoy working closely with leaders as they navigate complex issues and need clear, practical risk advice.

A big part of the role is understanding how work is actually playing out across the business, where controls are doing what they should, and where risk is starting to build. You’ll review incidents and emerging issues, challenge thinking when something doesn’t sit right, and help leaders work through what needs attention now versus what can be addressed over time.

You’ll lead a team of three Risk Specialists and a Senior Analyst, setting the tone for how risk is applied across the business. At the same time, you’ll stay hands-on yourself, preparing reporting for senior leaders and Board committees, maintaining frameworks, and continuing to strengthen how risk is applied across teams.

What you'll be doing

  • Provide Line 2 risk oversight and partner with leaders on key business decisions
  • Monitor and challenge risk exposure in line with Youi’s risk appetite
  • Lead, coach and develop a high-performing risk business partnering team
  • Design, implement and continuously improve ERM and operational risk frameworks
  • Deliver risk reporting, insights and analysis to senior leaders and Board Committees
  • Leverage risk systems and data analytics to identify trends, control gaps and opportunities
  • Drive consistency in risk management practices across the business
  • Support and uplift risk culture through coaching and capability building
  • Collaborate with Group Risk and broader stakeholders on enterprise-wide initiatives

What you'll bring

  • Tertiary qualification in Business, Commerce, Finance, Risk, Compliance, Law or similar
  • 5+ years’ experience in Risk Management, ideally within Financial Services or Insurance
  • Strong knowledge of Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) and Operational Risk frameworks
  • Experience designing, embedding and improving risk frameworks and controls
  • Solid understanding of the Australian Financial Services regulatory environment (e.g. APRA/ASIC)
  • Experience working with Risk Management Information Systems (RMIS) and data-driven risk reporting
  • Advanced knowledge of risk, compliance, internal controls and assurance methodologies
  • Ability to interpret and apply regulatory obligations in a commercial context
  • Proven experience influencing stakeholders and providing constructive challenge
  • Strong analytical skills with high attention to detail
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including Board-level reporting

What great looks like

  • You’re a trusted advisor leaders turn to when decisions aren’t straightforward
  • You challenge respectfully and influence without creating friction
  • You balance commercial outcomes with strong risk discipline
  • You simplify complex risk concepts so people can act with confidence
  • You build capability in others and create a high-performing team environment
  • You stay proactive, spotting risks and opportunities early

What you'll get

  • Set start and finish times so you can plan life outside work
  • 22 days annual leave, plus volunteer leave and yearly salary reviews
  • Real career progression with a strong focus on internal development
  • Ongoing training, coaching and leadership support
  • A team environment where people back each other and keep things real
  • Wellbeing program including free skin checks, flu jabs and onsite services
  • Discounted gym access through Fitness Passport
  • Discounted Youi insurance products
  • End of trip facilities and casual dress code
  • Parking options available

Why Youi?

We’re here to make insurance more human and provide a better alternative for our customers. As a challenger brand, we question the status quo and look for better ways to support people, especially when life doesn’t go to plan. That means real people helping real customers at the moments that matter most.

It’s also a place where you can make your mark. We believe in growing our own people, and many of our leaders started in frontline roles across the business before progressing into leadership. With clear progression pathways, structured development programs and ongoing coaching, you’ll have the support to build a long-term career here.

Recognition matters too, and you’ll see appreciation in the everyday moments. From ‘You’ve Been Spotted’, where peers recognise great work, to leader shout outs, quarterly Youi Stars and seasonal events that celebrate performance, recognition here is visible and part of how we work, not something saved for once a year.

And as more customers choose Youi, we keep growing. That growth shows up in bigger teams, new roles and expanding capability across the business, creating real opportunities for people to step into new challenges and shape their careers over time.

Work that’s a bit more you-shaped.
