Kenyon College seeks a qualified candidate to fill the position of Associate Director for Health Services. The Associate Director of Health Services leads a dynamic team of administrative and clinical staff including front desk, staff nurses, advanced practice providers and collaborating physicians to achieve the mission of the Cox Health & Counseling Center -“Providing compassionate care and empowering students to best manage their own health in preparation for life after Kenyon”. Kenyon College is very focused on wellness as part of our strategic plan, Foundations for Kenyon’s Third Century, and this position will be important in that effort. This twelve-month role is primarily administrative and will be responsible for coordinating all aspects of student health services for a diverse student population. The Associate Director will establish the benchmarks of successful student care, develop (& regularly review) policies and procedures with our providers to ensure best practices of health care are being used in our student care model, coordinate immunization compliance activities with Cox Center & campus partners, introduce a Health Services nurse triage line, intentionally build bridges with community medical providers, and participate in various committees across campus. This position reports to the Senior Director of Wellness and serves on the Cox Center leadership team with the Associate Directors of Counseling and Health Promotion and the Administrative Coordinator. This position is an integral member of the Division of Student Affairs.

Essential Functions
 

● Manage Health Services including but not limited to clinical care logistics, patient referral & pre-authorization oversight and management of the business process improvement activities in PyraMED, and supervising four clinical staff.

● Comply with all Federal, State, and College policies including but not limited to student confidentiality and release of protected health information.

● Establish and maintain health policies and procedures which ensure compliance with University, state board and American College Health Association best practices for student care.

● Develop and evolve clinical quality assurance and control initiatives.

● Oversight of diagnostic laboratory/laboratories including obtaining reports ordered by providers and timely patient notification of the results to the students.

● Establish, maintain and at times provide in-service regular training and professional development opportunities for staff to enhance their skills sets and help to maintain licensure.

● Manage and monitor immunization compliance of first-year and incoming students; other students as needed.

● Periodically review health forms for all incoming students with other members of the Cox Center leadership team.(i.e. health history, immunizations, athletic physicals, intake, referrals, etc.).

● Work with the Senior Director of Wellness and the Accounting Division to annually review the College’s Student Health Insurance program.

● Develop and maintain appropriate, professional relationships with part-time physicians and advanced practice providers.

● Build and maintain an appropriate referral network of physicians in the community.

● Serving as the Health Services primary point of contact for patients (except for scheduling), off campus providers, pharmacies, and community healthcare partners.

● Work collaboratively and consultatively with the staff in Counseling Services, Health Promotion, Athletics/Fitness/ Recreation, Housing & Residential Life, Campus Safety, ODEI (Office of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion), the Student Affairs Deans, Global Engagement, Student Accessibility & Support Services, Campus Life/ Student Rights & Responsibilities and other campus partners, as needed to support the medical care of students.

● Work with various departments to assist with student leader training.

● Coordinate the periodic review and updating of all forms needed for health history, immunizations, athletic physicals, intake, etc.

● Remain current in the field of health services through active participation in professional organizations.

● Participate in hiring and performance evaluations of health services staff.

● Attend Student Affairs Division meetings as appropriate. 

Working Conditions
 
This is a full-time, twelve month administrative position. Some evening and weekend work is required, including participation in the on-call rotation (when activated). Work conditions may include close contact with ill students; exposure to airborne and blood borne pathogens. The ability to lift boxes or items of 30 pounds or fewer is required.
 
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
 
An appreciation for the value of a liberal arts education, and a high degree of energy and enthusiasm for working with a diverse student population are essential, as is a sensitivity to the academic and personal needs of young adults. The Associate Director should possess exceptional understanding of clinical assessment, diagnosis, treatment, and referral of medical concerns raised by students. Strong interpersonal and communication skills are essential, as are the personal qualities and skills that enable effective interaction with and the ability to gain the respect of students, administrators, faculty, staff and Cox Center colleagues. Demonstrated experience providing resources and care for BIPOC students, members of the LGBTQ+ community and others with diverse backgrounds is required. A sense of humor, collaborative nature and a positive and caring approach to students and colleagues are also key attributes.
 
● Ability to demonstrate critical thinking related to patient care and safety.
● Knowledge and ability to effectively communicate with students, parents/ families, and other Kenyon colleges.
● Knowledge of and ability to use Kenyon’s electronic health record.
● Ability to respect differences in attitudes, cultures, values and expectations of others.
● Ability to promote a positive image of nursing by modeling the values and attitude of the nursing profession.
● Ability to multitask and prioritize clinical needs and responsibilities.
● Provide high-quality, ethical medical care to a diverse group of students, and provide appropriate referrals to physician networks as needed.
● Provide clinical supervision of Health Services personnel (currently: One nurse practitioner, two registered nurses, Part-time/PRN nurse practitioners and nurses).
● Proficiency in Google or Microsoft Office applications.
● Ability to work in consultation with supervisor to set own priorities/ goals and effectively complete assigned activities; utilizing supervisor as a support resource and communicating actively about potentially controversial matters or matters with far reaching implications.
● Ability to confidently make decisions that will have substantial impact on the management and operations of Health Services and other functional areas of the college including contributions to important strategy, operations and business decisions of the department.
● No budget responsibilities.
 
Position Qualifications
 
Preferred
● Completion of a Master of Science in Nursing degree with a focus on health administration, nurse administration or nursing leadership.
● One to five years serving in an administrative role.
● Registered Nurse (RN) certification.
● Experience in a family practice, or emergency department required, with experience in a college ambulatory health care setting.
 
Minimum
● Completion of a Bachelor of Science in Nursing degrees.
● At least three years of experience serving in a administrative role.
● Maintain current licensure with the Ohio Board of Nursing.
● Ability to respond appropriately, ethically, and responsibility in emergency and non-emergency situations.
● Familiarity with the diagnosis and management of common mental health conditions.
● An appreciation of college student needs, demonstrated cultural competency, and sensitivity and experience with diverse gender identities and sexual orientations.
● Diverse array of evidenced clinical and professional experiences and skills.
● Ability to work as a member of a team.
● Demonstrated proficiency in oral and written communication.
● Successful completion of background and professional license checks.
