Postdoctoral fellow in Biology Gambier, OH
The Biology Department at Kenyon College in Gambier, OH is seeking qualified applicants for a full-time, 3-year post-doctoral position in the laboratory of Karen Hicks. This position is funded through an NSF RUI grant to uncover the molecular mechanisms governing seasonal reproductive development in the moss Physcomitrium patens. We are using a combination of forward and reverse genetics, coupled with genomic and transcriptomic approaches, to isolate key genes involved in this process and build a molecular framework for this pathway, which appears to be distinct from that in flowering plants. Specifically, we are using an unbiased mutagenesis screen to identify necessary components of seasonal regulation and evaluate their spatial and temporal regulation. In addition, we are using CRISPR mutagenesis to test the hypothesis that one or more photoperiod-dependent genes serve as inducers of reproductive development. Finally, we are employing quantitative trait genetics to discover genes that underlie natural variation in reproductive timing observed across P. patens strains from different geographic regions. To Apply, please email Karen Hicks (hicksk@kenyon.edu) with questions. Application review will begin immediately and continue until the position is filled. Start date is flexible. To apply, candidates should visit the online application site found at https://careers.kenyon.edu. Applications should include a cover letter (1-2 pages) addressing past research experience, scientific interests, and professional goals as they relate to the position, curriculum vitae, unofficial graduate transcript and contact information for three references.
