Visiting Assistant Professor of Computer Science

Kenyon College seeks to fill a two-year visiting position at the assistant professor level in the interdisciplinary Program in Computing beginning in July 2025. The program embraces computing in many disciplinary areas across the College – our current steering committee consists of a biologist, a visual artist, a computer scientist, an economist, a mathematician, a political scientist, and a physicist, all of whom thoroughly integrate computing in their teaching and scholarship.

We seek someone with a PhD in computer science (ABD considered) for whom the prospect of working in a collaborative, thoroughly interdisciplinary program sounds appealing. All areas of specialty will be considered. Prior teaching experience at a US college or university or an equivalent institution is strongly preferred. The typical teaching load is five courses per year. Kenyon has a strong commitment to student-centered learning; thus, we will be particularly interested in candidates with active learning techniques. There would be the opportunity, but not an obligation, to design and teach specialized interdisciplinary courses in addition to more traditional disciplinary courses.

Kenyon College, home to an increasingly diverse student body of about 1800 and located on an idyllic campus in rural central Ohio (about an hour from Columbus), is ranked in the top tier of national liberal arts colleges and has a reputation for outstanding teaching and scholarship. Kenyon offers competitive salaries and a generous benefits package for employees and their family members. All Kenyon faculty have funds available to support travel and professional development.

All application materials must be submitted electronically through Kenyon’s employment website. To apply, candidates should visit the online application site found at http://careers.kenyon.edu.

Review of applications will begin February 24, 2025, and will continue until the position is filled. Completed applications received by the February 24, 2025 deadline will be guaranteed full consideration.

A complete application will consist of:

  1. a cover letter explaining why the Kenyon College interdisciplinary Program in Computing is a good fit for the applicant;

  2. a curriculum vitae;

  3. a statement reflect on the applicant’s teaching and learning experiences, including experiences with and plans for teaching a diverse population with inclusive pedagogy;

  4. a statement describing the applicant’s research accomplishments and future research directions;

  5. an unofficial graduate transcript

  6. an unofficial undergraduate transcript

  7. the contact information for three (3) references (at least one of whom will be able to address teaching)
