Kenyon College is conducting a search for a qualified candidate to fill the position Assistant/Associate Director of Sponsored Faculty Projects. (Title will be based on experience and qualifications.)
The assistant/associate director will manage the day-to-day functions of the Office for Sponsored Faculty Projects (OSFP). Under the guidance of OSFP Exec Dir, the successful candidate will facilitate the technical aspects of faculty applications/proposals and assist with the submission process for external funding, including individual research, creative endeavors, scholarship, and pedagogy. One of the primary responsibilities is to monitor the daily Federal Register, agency webpages and communiques (NSF, NIH, NEH, NEA, DoE, et al), and the CLASP listserv (Consortium of Liberal Arts Sponsored Programs) for changes in grantmaking/seeking policies and/or government compliance directives, as well as new funding opportunities.
The successful candidate will also participate in consulting with faculty members regarding their work and their external support needs. This will also include consultations on applications for internal grants made through the Faculty Development Committee. The Assistant/Associate Director will conduct searches for external funding for faculty seeking support for their projects, triage prospects, discuss with faculty members, and facilitate next steps, including creation of checklists for developing proposals compliant with both college and agency policies, budgets, internal sign-off procedures, and submission process.
The Assistant/Associate Director will also manage the OSFP webpages, its blog posts, newsletter, etc., as well as other functions requiring facility with technology and social media.
Specific Duties & Responsibilities
- Primary responsibility for guiding/advising/troubleshooting individual faculty proposal preparation and sign-off prior to submission.
- Act as OSFP’s “expert” on the technical aspects of all funding agency portals (proposal development, submission, reporting) and grant search databases.
- Assist in developing proposal budgets, including subaward agreements, cross-institutional collaborations, etc.
- Offer limited editing services to individual faculty applicants.
- Review faculty applications/proposals for completeness and compliance.
- Act as a backup Authorized Organizational Representatives (AOR) for the college, approving and submitting proposals on behalf of faculty PIs.
- Proactively manage/update OSFP’s social media outlets (webpages, blog, etc.).
- Track all in-process, pending, awarded and closed grants, and provide reports as requested.
- Consult regularly with the Assistant Controller on monitoring post-award grant management.
- Develop working knowledge of individual faculty research/creative/ scholarship/pedagogic interests (all disciplines).
- Maintain an archive of proposals (both awarded and declined) with, where possible, agency reviewer comments, as a resource for other grant-seeking faculty.
- Develop and implement policies and procedures governing all aspects of external sponsorship.
- Represent OSFP as an ex officio member of the Faculty Development Committee.
- Develop training materials, modules, and resources, and co-lead workshops for faculty and staff related to grant-seeking.
Preferred Credentials
- Three to five years demonstrated facility with all aspects of pre-award grant management (including working directly with faculty members), grant-related budget preparation, and related technologies (e.g., databases, agency portals).
- Graduate degree (terminal preferred).
- Deep knowledge of standard concepts, practices, and procedures related to all aspects of sponsored programs.
- Familiarity with federal rules and regulations (e.g., PPAPG) related to all aspects of grant proposals and awards.
- Experience with budget preparation.
- Facility with online proposal submission and tracking, including Research.gov, Grants.gov, eRA Commons, etc.
- Ability to analyze and cogently report on data.
- Strong written and oral communication skills, including editing/proofing.
- Outstanding interpersonal skills.
- Strong computer and apps skills, including Wordpress, Microsoft Office, etc.
- Demonstrated experience managing multiple competing priorities, with high attention to detail.
