Kenyon College is conducting a search for a qualified applicant to fill the position of Helper to preform a wide variety of tasks working independently and/or assisting skilled trades. This is a full-time position with benefits. As of July 1st, the starting pay will be $35.30 per hour and will include a 5% shift differential. Work days are Sunday-Thursday, 4:00 p.m. to 12:30 a.m., with a 30-minute unpaid lunch.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Reporting to the Manager of Technical Trades, the candidate will perform a wide variety of tasks working independently and/or assisting skilled trades.
  • Must be able to lift, carry, and move materials, supplies, equipment, and tools.
  • Must be able to operate various hand and/or power tools.
  • Must change air filters and light bulbs, operate power washer, and man lift.
  • Must perform minor demolition work, dig trenches, carry and set-up ladders and scaffolds. 
  • Must lubricate equipment, pumps, motors and vehicles. Must assist in pulling wire and cable, attach electrical devices, such as boxes or face-plates.
  • Must obtain and deliver materials and equipment to work sites, as directed. Must clean items including, but not limited to: furnaces, filters, cooling towers, water strainers, vehicles, gutters, HVAC coils, and other equipment or materials.
  • Must perform preventative maintenance tasks and other tasks for which the incumbent is specifically trained and/or certified, such as asbestos removal.
  • Shall temporarily fill various trades’ positions during absences. Act as group leader when designated to do so by supervisor. Perform such other duties as may be assigned in emergencies.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High School graduate or GED with good reading, math skills, mechanical, and building aptitude. 
  • Ability to comprehend and follow verbal and/or written instructions and be able to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Must have knowledge and experience operating hand and power tools of the trades and put into practice the safe use and operation, thereof. 
  • A current and valid driver’s license and ability to operate a standard shift vehicle.  Ability to work at high elevations, up to 60 feet, using scaffolding or ladders.
  • Must be capable of lifting and carrying heavy loads approximately 50 pounds.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to perform job-related physical tasks including lifting, standing, and working in varied indoor and outdoor conditions.
  • Able to work at high elevations using scaffolding and/or ladders.
  • Capable of lifting and carrying heavy loads.
  • Good manual dexterity.
