Appointment rank will depend on prior experience. A preference will be given to writers of fiction and/or nonfiction prose, especially in innovative subfields such as graphic, speculative, or young adult literary fiction. A successful candidate will already have earned significant public recognition. The Thomas Professor will be in residence throughout the academic year, with a 2/2 teaching load primarily dedicated to courses in fiction-writing and nonfiction-writing at all levels. This position will require contributions to the life of the English department and the College (including advising students, directing honors projects, and participating in faculty governance). This chair will also have significant leadership expectations for enhancing, developing, diversifying, and supporting the department’s creative writing curriculum. The position carries a dedicated fund for organizing events and promoting the College’s writing life. Qualifications include significant teaching experience and publication in fiction and/or nonfiction prose (at least two books). Ph.D. or MFA preferred. Applications must include a cover letter detailing writing achievement and aspirations; as well as teaching experience and teaching philosophy, including methods for incorporating issues related to diversity, inclusivity, and equity into teaching and advising; a Curriculum Vitae; three letters of recommendation (at least one of which must speak to the candidate’s teaching excellence); and a writing sample (up to 20 pages). All application materials must be submitted electronically through Kenyon’s website at http://careers.kenyon.edu. Review of applications will begin immediately and continue until the position is filled.  To ensure full consideration, apply by November 1. Applications will be acknowledged by automatic response. Preliminary interviews will be held by Skype. On-campus interview will follow. An Equal Opportunity Employer, Kenyon welcomes diversity and encourages applications from women and minority candidates.
