About the role
Reporting into the Gourmet Traveller Digital Editor, the Category Editor uses their strong journalistic skills as well as knowledge of Gourmet Traveller’s key content pillars (food, dining out, travel, drinks and luxury lifestyle) to create original content that engages our audience and maintains GT’s position as a leading authority in the food, dining and travel space.
This is a truly omnichannel role, working as part of the GT content team to ideate, develop and create omnichannel content across the brand, including digital-first news content. The News Editor will build and maintain effective, respectful and regular communications with all key stakeholders and will work collaboratively alongside the team.
Duties
- Create clean, factual and highly engaging omnichannel content using insights and research tools to monitor performance, including written content for web and print as well as socials.
- Use industry contacts and relationships to secure interviews and content opportunities relevant to the GT audience.
- Under the direction of the digital editor, use SEO insights and tools to optimise existing content and convert to shoppable commerce content where possible.
- Under the direction of the editor, commission copy where appropriate, ensuring budgets and deadlines are met.
- Ensure all copy is clean, accurate and reflects GT style and tone.
- Assist with fact-checking, subbing and proofing when required.
- Manage workflow effectively to ensure all deadlines are met and clearly communicate progress with wider team.
Skills and experience
- 3+ years professional writing experience
- Experience with Content Station, WordPress, InDesign and other publishing tools
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Strong content ideation skills
- Solid understanding of SEO content and digital insight tools
- Relevant tertiary qualification
- Strong network of industry contacts and familiarity with Australian hospitality landscape.
