About this role

The purpose of the Safety and Wellbeing Senior Advisor role is to engage and partner with the business to implement and maintain safety and wellbeing strategies, initiatives, and activities within the relevant programs, predominately within Northern Territory. You will also be responsible for influencing, coaching and guiding your stakeholders to build their skills and facilitate the management of critical and local risks. Working in a permanent, full time capacity this position will be located in our Darwin office with some flexibility to work remotely, occasional travel will be required.  

To be successful in this role you will have a partnership approach and demonstrate strong relationship building skills to drive safety outcomes.

Key Responsibilities

  • Engage and support the business to achieve functional and business plan outcomes and other organisational programs and initiatives
  • Partner with local leadership to oversee health and safety compliance of all work sites in their portfolio, ensuring the business have the required health and safety policies, procedures and systems in place to manage risks and meet regulatory responsibilities.
  • Implement local or national projects supporting critical risk management and continuous improvement in safety and wellbeing.
  • Lead the completion of incident investigations, reporting activities and support workplace risk assessments where required.
  • Conduct internal safety and wellbeing audits and monitor non-conformance in key areas such as fire inspections, asbestos registers.
  • Monitor compliance of contractor and third-party health and safety requirements and escalate to internal stakeholders as appropriate; Property and Fleet.
  • Deliver safety and wellbeing training as appropriate. Work in partnership with Learning & Development for accredited or specialised training such as HSR, First Aid (including Mental Health FA), CPR.

Skills & Experience

  • Tertiary qualification in Workplace Health and Safety, or related field (or equivalent work experience)
  • Demonstrated understanding of current legislative requirements within workplace health safety and environment
  • Demonstrated experience in monitoring a safety management system within a geographically dispersed organisation operating in multi-site locations
  • Experience in similar Health and Safety partnering role in medium to large-sized organisations
  • A self-motivated, results-orientated individual with proven experience in building relationships through a partnership approach
  • Proven experience in supporting a strong safety culture resulting in improved safety performance
  • Experience in a similar position within a Human Services organisation or as an Allied Health Professional with safety risk management experience preferable

The successful candidate will be required to clear probity checks including National Criminal History Record Check.
