About the Role
As Media Lead, you will partner across the organisation in a national capacity to drive proactive media engagement that reflects Life Without Barriers strategy, purpose and values. You will manage media enquiries, provide information and advice on government relations, design and implement media campaigns, provide reporting, monitoring and create opportunities to share Life Without Barries efforts across all program areas. Your expertise in media engagement, government relations, and navigating political dynamics will be crucial
You’ll collaborate closely with our Chief Engagement and Policy Officer and teams across the organisation to execute media strategies aligned with our mission.
This position can be based in Newcastle, Sydney, or Melbourne, with occasional travel. Some in office time is expected with flexibility.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead media engagement, providing timely responses to enquiries and ensuring alignment with LWB’s values.
- Offer media training and guidance to spokespeople, preparing them for effective public communication.
- Design and implement media campaigns, particularly those related to social policy and public affairs.
- Build and nurture relationships with journalists, media outlets, and government departments.
- Oversee media monitoring and social media tracking, identifying emerging issues and opportunities.
- Analyse media impact to inform and refine media strategies.
- Advise on risk management and manage communication during reputational crises.
- Write and distribute media releases, ensuring effective targeting and engagement.
- Develop positive media stories and identify strategic media opportunities.
- Support social policy events and government affairs initiatives.
Skills & Experience:
- Tertiary qualifications in a relevant discipline.
- Proven experience leading media engagement, particularly in public affairs and government relations.
- Expertise in managing both traditional and digital PR channels.
- Strong experience in media event planning and execution.
- Ability to manage competing priorities and meet deadlines.
- Established relationships with national and local media outlets.
- Exceptional communication, organisational, and strategic planning skills.
- Ability to collaborate with diverse stakeholders and think creatively to solve challenges.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office and media management tools.
