About the role
As the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Cultural Support Specialist, you will play a key role in ensuring Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children and young people maintain strong connections to their culture, community, and identity. You will advocate for children and young people to ensure their voices are heard and supported, fostering a strong sense of belonging and cultural pride.
In this role, you will establish and sustain meaningful relationships between children and young people, Life Without Barriers, and local Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Communities. You will lead the development and implementation of culturally appropriate support plans for children and young people in out-of-home care, working in partnership with children and young people, their families, community members, and multidisciplinary care teams.
Travel will be required across the region including Newcastle, Central Coast, Lake Macquarie, Muswellbrook, Taree, Foster and Port Macquarie.
Role Requirements
- Certificate 4 or above in Community Services or related discipline
- Drivers Licence
- Extensive knowledge of issues impacting on Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and communities in contemporary society
- Working knowledge of relevant legislative and regulatory environments for areas of business responsibility.
- Demonstrated written communication skills for the creation of reports, correspondence and other material
- Ability to work collaboratively with a range of stakeholders including peers, employees, external organisations, funding bodies and government agencies.
