Role: Therapeutic Specialist (Child, Youth & Family)
Location: Townsville, QLD
Employment Type: Permanent Part - Time, four-day week – 9.00am to 5.00pm. We are open to discussing specific days with the applicant.
In this role, you will play a key role in supporting Children and Young People in Out of Home Care by ensuring the consistent application of Life Without Barriers' therapeutic frameworks, including the CARE and Therapeutic Crisis Intervention (TCI) models.
You will conduct assessments, develop therapeutic plans, provide consultation and reflective practice support to staff and carers, and work collaboratively with key stakeholders to achieve positive outcomes for children and young people who have experienced complex trauma, abuse, neglect, and family separation.

Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct therapeutic assessments and develop evidence-based plans, including Positive Behaviour Support Plans (PBSPs) and Individual Crisis Support Plans (ICSPs).
- Provide therapeutic consultation, guidance and reflective practice support to staff, carers, and care teams.
- Support the implementation of CARE and TCI frameworks to ensure trauma-informed, therapeutic care across services.
- Participate in Care Team Meetings and collaborate with Child Safety and other stakeholders to support positive outcomes for children and young people.
- Coordinate preventative strategies to promote placement stability and reduce the risk of placement breakdown.
- Deliver therapeutic knowledge transfer through coaching, training, and practice support.
Skills & Experience
- A tertiary qualification (Bachelor's degree or higher) in Psychology, Social Work, Occupational Therapy, Mental Health Nursing, or a related discipline.
- Demonstrated experience working with Children and Young People in Out of Home Care (OOHC), therapeutic care settings or clinical environments.
- Strong understanding of child development, complex trauma and the impacts of abuse, neglect and family separation.
- Experience using evidence-based assessment tools and translating assessment outcomes into effective therapeutic interventions.
- Proven ability to build strong stakeholder relationships and manage competing priorities in a dynamic environment.
- Current Driver's Licence.
Successful candidates will be required to clear probity checks including National Criminal History Record Check and any relevant stated based checks.
