Through our National Immigration Support Service (NISS), we provide compassionate, culturally safe, and trauma-informed support to asylum seekers and refugees living in the Australian community. We walk alongside individuals and families on their journey, helping them navigate what can be complex and challenging systems and empowering them to reach their goals, one step at a time.

About the role

We are seeking a Registered Psychologist (Clinician) to join our Status Resolution Support Services (SRSS) team.

In this role you will, provide clinical assessments, support, and evidence-based therapy to asylum seekers and refugees. This includes assessing emotional, behavioural, and cognitive needs, offering tailored recommendations, and delivering individual or group therapy. The role also involves tracking client progress and collaborating with stakeholders to ensure ongoing, effective support and care.

Additionally, this position will also provide training and guidance to caseworkers and staff on therapeutic approaches and incident management. This role is key in helping clients within the SRSS program navigate life transitions, improve their mental health, and achieve their goals while waiting for visa decisions.

This is a Permanent Full-Time position based from either our Sunshine or Dandenong office, with flexibility to work from office and home.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver clinical expertise to support clients from refugee and asylum seeker backgrounds.
  • Evaluate clients’ cognitive, emotional, behavioural, and daily living capabilities through formal and informal assessments.
  • Support clients through major life transitions with skill-building and coping strategies.
  • Provide training and guidance on therapeutic approaches, behaviour support, and incident management.
  • Promote inclusive, rights-based services and lead continuous service improvement.

Skills & Experience

  • Tertiary qualifications in Psychology with registration or eligibility for registration as a psychologist in Australia.
  • Clinical or forensic psychology experience, with a strong understanding of clinical governance frameworks.
  • Experience with Culturally and Linguistically Diverse (CALD) and Diverse Backgrounds
  • Skilled in collaborative work with multidisciplinary and external support agencies.
  • Experienced in delivering flexible, client-focused interventions, including outreach and e-health.
  • Ability to implement client- and family-centred approaches, with cultural sensitivity towards diverse and Indigenous communities.
  • Current driver’s licence and capacity to work effectively in a team-based environment.

Successful candidates will be required to clear probity checks including National Criminal History Record Check, VIC Working with Children Check and registration on the VIC Residential Carer Workers register (WCES)
