What you’ll do
As a Youth Worker (known at LWB as a “Therapeutic Residential Carer”) you will work withing the CARE model to enhance the lives of young people in our residential Out of Home Care program incorporating a therapeutic, trauma informed approach.
- You will help create a home like environment for young people in care, tailored to their individual needs of each young person.
- Assist with daily living such as cooking, cleaning, transporting the young people to school, work and other activities
- Support each young person to engage with their community and family
- Supporting young people to attain their educational goals, undertake extracurricular activities in line with their interests and supporting their connection to community and family.
- Act as an adult role model, build relationships and trust with the young people and engage with them in purposeful activities
- Work with the young people through tough and emotional times, providing practical and trauma informed support
- Utilise Therapeutic Crisis Intervention to help the young people work through complex behaviours
Please note: Our residential care service in Alice Springs runs a 24/7 roster model with typical shifts being; early days (7am – 3pm) days (9am – 5pm), evening (3:00pm – 11:00pm), active nights (11:00pm – 7:00am) and sleepovers (5:00pm – 9:00am w/ 8-hour sleep component).
The successful candidates must be able to complete a minimum of 48 hrs (6 shifts) per fortnight and will be display flexible working across a variety of shift with availability of weekdays and weekends.
We have multiple permanent part time positions available (ranging from 48hrs-64hrs per fortnight). A roster line will be organised with you prior to starting.
Skills & Experience You’ll Require
- Either hold or be actively working towards a Cert IV in Child & Family Intervention or other relevant qualification.
- Experience working with children who are at risk or in the care of Child Protection Family Services and/or experience working with vulnerable people
- Valid unrestricted Australian drivers’ licence.
- Valid First Aid Certificate and CPR Certification. Must be obtained at your own cost.
Successful candidates will be required to clear probity checks including National Criminal History Record Check, Working with Children Check and NT Child Protection Check.
