Department Summary
The Institute of Ecology and Evolution (IE²) facilitates research and graduate education in ecology and evolutionary biology. The Institute fosters a collegial and stimulating intellectual environment for world-class research in molecular evolution, evolutionary genetics, evolution of development, and microbial, population, community, and ecosystems ecology.
Position Summary
The Institute of Ecology and Evolution seeks postdoctoral scholars to develop novel theory, mathematical models and/or computational approaches to describe the formation and dynamics of host-associated microbiomes. The candidates will work closely with the Bohannan, Cresko and/or Ralph research groups, and will be responsible for conducting research and other related scholarly activities. The postdoc may also assist in managing lab activities and provide technical expertise to other group members involved in related research.
The postdoc will report directly to the PIs. No one will formally report to this position, although the person in this position may be asked to train other laboratory members.
For the purpose of acquiring additional professional skills needed to pursue a career path in the chosen field, this position will have a formal mentor plan.
Minimum Requirements
Ph.D in relevant field
Professional Competencies
Demonstrated quantitative skills as evidenced by publication record.
Competency in the mathematical and/or computational modeling of biological phenomena.
Demonstrated strong written communications skills.
A record of independent, creative scientific research.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience in modeling the assembly of complex ecological communities and/or modeling the quantitative genetics of complex traits is preferred. An interest in developing novel approaches to modeling microbiomes is preferred, although experience working with or modeling microbiomes is not a requirement.
