Department Summary

The Institute of Ecology and Evolution (IE²) facilitates research and graduate education in ecology and evolutionary biology. The institute fosters a collegial and stimulating intellectual environment for world-class research in molecular evolution, evolutionary genetics, evolution of development, and microbial, population, community, and ecosystems ecology.

Position Summary

IE² at the University of Oregon is soliciting applications for its open applicant pool. Positions are limited duration, funding contingent post-doctoral or research appointments that are part-time or short-term, with contracts not to exceed one year, with the possibility of renewal up to a total of three years depending on program needs, funding, and performance. Successful candidates will have the ability to work effectively with faculty, staff, and students from a variety of diverse backgrounds.

Examples of potential positions include research assistants, scientists, engineers, or research associates. Postdoctoral scholars will also be considered for positions providing additional training and will have a formal mentor plan. Research assistants, engineers, and scientists conduct research under the direction of a principal investigator; postdoctoral researchers conduct research under the direction of a faculty member for the purpose of acquiring research training; research associates conduct research with only general guidance.

Minimum Requirements

To qualify for the rank of Research Assistant:
• Bachelor's degree in biology or related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience

To qualify for the rank of Research Scientist or Research Engineer:
• Bachelor's degree in biology or related field
• Technical skills and experience relevant to position needs

To qualify for the rank of Research Associate or Postdoctoral Scholar:
• PhD in biology or related field

• The successful candidate will have the ability to work effectively with faculty, staff, and students from a variety of diverse backgrounds.
