Please note this is a Limited Duration (LD) position with guaranteed funding for two (2) years. LD positions are one-year appointments with the potential to extend for a second year based on business needs and funding. We are seeking permanent funding. If funding is secured, this position will be ongoing.

Position Duration:

Limited Duration positions are benefit-eligible and are treated as regular positions in every respect other than the fact that they are scheduled to end at a predetermined time. Also, if the position ends prior to the two-year mark, the incumbent will not have lay off rights under the SEIU Collective Bargaining Agreement.

Department Summary

Business Affairs (BA) provides efficient and effective business services for University of Oregon (UO) students, faculty, and staff; manages and secures UO material assets; and ensures UO business is conducted in accordance with all applicable regulations, policies, procedures, Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), and sound business practices.

Business Affairs consists of 5 divisions reporting to the Associate Vice President for Business Affairs and Controller and provides direct services to staff, students, and UO departments: Financial Services/Accounts Payable/Travel, Student Financial Services, Payroll, Information Systems, and Treasury Management. These divisions manage the largest payroll in Eugene, support UO expenditures totaling more than $500 million, and manage the billing and collection of tuition and fees for more than 24,000 students. The BAO has approximately 64 FTE and an annual operating budget of $6.7 million.

Position Summary

The Payroll Communications and Training Coordinator will develop and execute communication and training plans for the Payroll Services office that inform, educate, and inspire the UO workforce about payroll programs, policies, and initiatives that are vital to their career success and engagement. The position serves as a communications expert researching, developing, executing, and measuring complex communications projects delivered in effective and consumable ways, introduces creative and innovative ideas, gathers diverse insights, and takes data-driven informed approaches to accomplish the work. This communications professional will be well-versed in strategies for reaching a diverse workforce with regular and targeted communications. As a training coordinator, position is responsible for facilitating and administering compliance and general in-person and virtual training; supporting management of payroll-related trainings in the online training catalog and Payroll website; providing excellent customer service to employees, affiliate trainers, and course administrators; preparing reports related to learning and development activities.
This position demands a firm commitment to serving the university with sensitivity and professionalism, assisting and acting in a confidential capacity. The person in this position must support diversity and inclusion in every aspect and responsibility associated with the job. The ability to handle confidential material appropriately and maintain an institutional perspective is also critical.
This position is based in Eugene with possible hybrid option after initial in-person training period. All adjusted work arrangements require supervisor approval.

Minimum Requirements

Three years experience in gathering information, writing/producing materials, presenting information to the public and public relations. One year of this experience must have included responsibility for press releases and interaction with the news media.

* A Bachelor's degree in journalism, communication or closely related field may substitute for up to two years of the general experience.

Preferred Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in journalism, communications, or public relations.
• CPP or SPHR/SHRM certification.
• Three years of experience in payroll or related field.
• Experience in higher education.
