Department Summary

The UO Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry offers undergraduate major and minor degrees in chemistry and biochemistry, and graduate degrees at the master's and PhD level. Our undergraduate program provides training for students planning careers in the chemical and biological sciences, and also for those in biology, health-related disciplines, earth sciences, secondary education, business, journalism, and law. Undergraduate research and other educational activities outside the traditional classroom are essential components of these majors.

Our graduate program recognizes the importance of diversity and breadth in graduate education and continues to respond to the shifts and changes in career opportunities available to our graduates. Research at the University of Oregon is designed to keep student researchers at the forefront of chemical science.

A unique strength of our program is its interdisciplinary approach to research and teaching. Chemical scientists may be interested in the Institute of Molecular Biology, the Institute of Theoretical Science, the Materials Science Institute, the Oregon Center for Optics, and the programs in cell biology, and molecular synthesis, structure, and dynamics.

Position Summary

The UO Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry invites applications for its open pro tempore instructional pool. Potential teaching assignments may include courses in general chemistry, organic/inorganic chemistry, physical chemistry, or biochemistry. Positions are limited-duration up to one year, with potential for renewal for up to a total of three years. In limited circumstances, there may be possibility of renewal beyond three years based on programmatic need, funding, and performance. Salary is dependent upon education and experience.

Minimum Requirements

• Master's degree in chemistry or a related field.

Professional Competencies

• Ability to support and enhance a diverse learning and working environment.

Preferred Qualifications

• Ph.D. in chemistry or a related field.
• Prior relevant instructional experience.
