Department Summary
The College of Education (COE) at the University of Oregon is a community of leading researchers and practitioners dedicated to transformational scholarship, integrated teaching, and collaborative practice designed to enhance individual lives and systems within a culture that values diversity and promotes respect and inclusion.
The COE is home to 3 academic departments, 14 academic degree programs, 14 research and outreach units, the HEDCO Institute, and the HEDCO Clinic. Our tenure-track, instructional career and research career faculty are devoted to inspiring and mentoring the approximately 1,500 undergraduate and graduate students who will be the next generation of educational and social science leaders. The COE faculty, staff, and students have a distinguished record of developing widely adopted, evidence-based assessments and interventions that serve millions of children in thousands of schools across the country and world. The Department of Education Studies (EDST) offers undergraduate, master’s, and doctoral programs to a diverse student body. For undergraduates who are interested in becoming elementary or secondary teachers, EDST offers the Educational Foundations BA/BS and Secondary Certificate program pathways to achieve the goal of becoming a teacher. Our UOTeach Curriculum and Teaching degree is the teacher licensure master's program for initial licensure in both Elementary Multiple Subjects and Middle/High School Education. Finally, the Critical and Sociocultural Studies in Education (CSSE) Ph.D. program provides a comprehensive approach to educational research that considers the consequences of contemporary schooling systems while developing alternatives to current practices that result in systemic change. The faculty in the Department of Education Studies is diverse in terms of research interests and specializations, with award recognition for scholarship, teaching, and service. Our programs are known for a strong focus on equity, diversity, and inclusion.
Position Summary
The University of Oregon’s Education Studies Department (EDST) in the College of Education seeks to create a pool of qualified candidates to fill periodic vacancies for temporary teaching appointments. Instructors teach primarily undergraduate-level courses and lecturers teach primarily graduate-level courses. Positions are limited duration appointments potentially renewable for up to a total of three years. Appointments may range from one to three terms per year, including summer.
Some courses meet during evenings or weekends or are delivered to distant sites via video conferencing. Some courses are offered exclusively online; in these cases, instructors should make themselves available for student contact via email, Zoom office hours, or phone in lieu of in-person office hours. Travel within Oregon and to west coast states may be required for some courses.

Minimum Requirements
Minimum qualifications for both Instructors and Lectures:
• Relevant subject matter expertise and experience by course content (e.g., childhood and adolescent studies, educational technology, literacy and reading instruction, art education, etc.)
Minimum degree requirement for Instructors:
• MA or MS or equivalent graduate-level work in Curriculum and Instruction, Teacher Education, or other research/education-related area.
Minimum degree requirement for Lecturers:
• Doctoral or terminal degree in a relevant field (curriculum and instruction, teacher education, etc.) or relevant subject area (Mathematics, Science, World Language, English, History/Geography/Political Science/Other Social Studies related field, Childhood and Adolescent Studies, Technology, Literacy, or English Language Learning).
Professional Competencies
• Commitment to and knowledge of diversity issues and trends
• Commitment to and knowledge of gender and sexuality diversity issues and trends
• Demonstrated potential to contribute positively to our diverse community and to work effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds.
• Excellent communication skills that will enhance community relations and support graduate student training.
• Demonstrated ability or potential for quality teaching.
Preferred Qualifications
All Course Subjects:
• K-12 teaching experience in an elementary or secondary subject area (or equivalent professional instructional position): Mathematics, Science, World Language, English, History/Geography/Political Science/Other Social Studies related field, Childhood and Adolescent Studies, Technology, Literacy, or English Language Learning (ESOL)
• Public K-12 license (inactive is acceptable) or public K-12 instructional professional experience in an appropriate level subject area
• Previous successful experience with the course(s) and relevant experience in university-level instruction
• Experience with pre-service teacher education (ex. cooperating teacher, university supervisor, professional development)
• Experience in public education issues related to race, ethnicity, socioeconomic inequities, English language learners, gender and sexual orientation
• Evidence of curriculum and pedagogy addressing diversity in the classroom
Undergraduate Course Subjects:
• Successful experience as a college-level instructor
• Familiarity with teacher education curriculum and regulations
• Ph.D. in Curriculum and Instruction, Teacher Education, or other research/education-related area
Graduate Course Subjects:
• Successful experience in professional development with K-12 teachers
• Extensive knowledge of teacher education curriculum and standards related to an instructional subject area
