Department Summary

Budget and Resource Planning (BRP) has overall responsibility for the planning, implementation, and oversight of the University’s budget processes. We assist by providing objective, accurate, and timely data, and analysis to support strategic planning and decision-making across campus.

Budget and Resource Planning (BRP) is a unit within the Finance and Administration portfolio. Finance and Administration is a vibrant and varied portfolio serving all aspects of campus life. Our employees perform a wide range of functions including offering essential financial tools and support to the university’s many departments, providing key resources to employees, and keeping campus safe, clean, accessible, and beautiful.

Position Summary

Reporting to the Director of BRP, the Financial Analyst conducts financial analysis that supports the transformation of complex data, to prepare multi-layered, financial reports for senior leadership, which impacts university decision-making, strategic plans, policies, and assessments related to financial planning. This position requires the ability to effectively manipulate complex relational databases, and communicate findings and trends in support of executive decisions. BRP is staffed by two Financial Analysts with primarily split responsibility.

The analyst will be responsible for a broad set of assignments and is expected to handle many sensitive and confidential issues related to the University’s operating resources of $1.2 Billion, and will serve as fiscal operations expert for Responsibility Units (RU Level 3 Organizations)/financially responsible individuals. This position will inform and educate university areas on financial concepts and best practices and deliver insights and recommendations for optimal and preferred solutions, and ensures compliance with GAAP and other regulatory requirements.

The analyst makes frequent independent decisions in support of senior leadership decisions. This position will utilize expertise not only in data analytics but also in the university’s financial systems and budget models to identify and execute appropriate and sustainable methodologies and procedures that enable the university to plan for and respond in a highly dynamic financial environment.

Minimum Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in accounting, business, computer science, or related field;
• Five (5) years of experience in accounting, financial analysis, and reporting;
• Three or more years of the experience must include working with complex budgets with multiple revenue streams or funding sources and multiple supported operations; or an equivalent combination of experience, training, and/or education that provided comparable knowledge, skills, and abilities.

• Strong analytical and critical thinking skills and ability to analyze, summarize, and effectively present data;
• Ability to lead project teams and to work cooperatively as a team member;
• Ability to communicate effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds and cultures, and foster equity and inclusion in a welcoming, safe and respectful environment.

Preferred Qualifications

• Advanced experience in Excel, proficient with Word, Outlook (or similar scheduling/calendar program);
• Experience working with large relational database systems and performing complex data extractions;
• Experience working with Banner, Cognos, or other integrated data and reporting tools;
• Experience developing forecast and tracking models that integrate statistical and financial information;
• Experience performing analysis of financial forecasts, budgets, and econometric trends.
