Department Summary
University Health Services (UHS) is a unit within the Division of Student Services and Enrollment Management and is a nationally accredited (AAAHC) outpatient clinic providing primary care to students at the University of Oregon. All staff are required to uphold the values of the UHS.
This position works in support of the University Health Services mission and vision and is consistent with UO policy. Some aspects of this position may be completed in collaboration with other University departments.
Position Summary
As the Dental Services Patient Services Representative, this position will be the initial point of contact for University of Oregon students, faculty, and staff. This position must be able to competently assist patients in a busy clinical environment in a calm professional manner.
This position will assist patients in the check in process including updating demographics, forms, and insurance. This position will assist in the insurance and billing process according to predetermined guidelines, along with effective communication between the front office and clinical areas including other UHS departments as needed. This position will assess patient needs on an individual basis and seek guidance as necessary to determine urgency of care. This position will provide administrative support and assist in managing a multiple provider schedule. This position reports to the Dental Services Manager.
This position requires successful completion of a criminal background check and routine screening of Medicaid and Medicare Exclusion Lists. Employee loses eligibility for employment if on the List of Excluded Individuals and Entities (LEIE) and/or System of Award Management (SAM). In addition, employee must follow Compliance with UHS policies regarding tuberculosis screening, measles and mumps (MMR), seasonal flu, hepatitis B, and other immunization requirements.
Minimum Requirements
• Completion of courses or training in Office Technology; OR
• One year of general clerical experience which included typing, word processing, or other generation of documents; OR
• An equivalent combination of training and experience.

• Ability to maintain calm professionalism in a busy clinical environment with frequent interruptions
• Sound knowledge of dental terminology
• Ability to perform multiple tasks with accuracy and efficiently with an attention to detail
• Ability to communicate with and work effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds, in support of an inclusive and welcoming environment
Preferred Qualifications
• Three plus years’ experience in a high-volume dental office scheduling appointments and verifying insurance
• Experience creating and submitting Insurance claims electronically, including pre-authorizations
• Experience in dental EHR systems preferably the EHRs utilized by UHS Dental Services: Fuse, Eaglesoft, Dentrix Dental
• Experience in scheduling emergency dental appointments
