Department Summary
The University of Oregon Intercollegiate Athletic Department's primary purpose is to provide a unique opportunity for student-athletes to be developed, tested, and encouraged to reach their maximum potential in every aspect of their lives. The department has approximately 280 administrative & classified employees and hosts over 600,000 spectators annually and represents the University of Oregon in athletic competition with other universities & colleges.
Position Summary
Working as a member of the Duck Athletic Fund team, the Assistant Director of Annual Philanthropy (assistant director) will execute Duck Athletic Fund annual philanthropy initiatives including emerging annual giving campaigns, leadership annual giving programs, and day of giving (DucksGive). The assistant director will be responsible for growing a $14 million annual giving program by executing and developing strategies that build a broad base of sustainable, annual support for the University of Oregon Athletic Department from alumni, parents, friends, faculty, staff, and students.
The assistant director will collaborate with the university community and provide expertise in direct fundraising and strategic planning to its campus partners, as well as coordinating outreach to alumni and other constituencies to ensure that communication with these groups is effective and fundraising is maximized.
This position is responsible for managing and working with donor data to create and implement cultivation and stewardship strategies, provide effective and appropriate communication to donors, and develop strategies around stewardship for specific gifts and donors.
This position requires independent thinking and the ability to prioritize work assignments, use good judgment, and take initiative to solve problems. Under the supervision of the Assistant Athletic Director for Development, this position makes decisions about annual giving strategies and must prioritize projects and assignments to best streamline workflow between multiple units across campus.
This position requires outstanding organizational, interpersonal, time management and communication skills. They must also be well-versed in, customer engagement, and have a background in and/or appreciation for college athletics, fundraising, and the donor/customer experience.
The assistant director will be asked to contribute creative, innovative ideas to maximize fundraising efforts, provide enhanced stewardship and increase donor engagement, and coordinate outreach for the Duck Athletic Fund and Athletic Department. The assistant will also maintain direct oversight of annual giving campaigns and supporting staff, students, and interns.
The assistant director is responsible for promoting the philosophy and objectives of the intercollegiate athletics program, including adherence to all department policies and procedures, as well as the rules and regulations of the University, Big Ten Conference, and the NCAA.
Special Requirements:
• Ability to obtain UO driver's certification within 90 days of employment and maintain throughout employment with the Athletic Department.
• Ability and willingness to work weekends with occasional travel.
Minimum Requirements
• Bachelor’s degree or an equivalent combination of skills and experience.
• Two years’ fundraising experience which includes one years at full performance level.
• One year of direct experience supporting annual philanthropy and stewardship programs.
• Gift processing experience and understanding of gift acceptance policies in a university/foundation setting.
• Experience developing integrated multi-channel fundraising campaigns to achieve specific goals and objectives.

• Project management skills, including the ability to plan, develop, and execute multi-channel mass solicitations.
• Ability to analyze data and create reports showing solicitation results and overall progress towards goals.
• Understanding of and ability to use donor segmentation and multi-channel solicitation.
• Ability to strategize, prioritize and multi-task to meet goals and deadlines.
• Strong organizational skills; excellent verbal and written communication skills, including proofreading, editing, and content creation skills.
• Ability to write compelling stories about the university to use in solicitations.
• Exceptional interpersonal skills, ability to work collaboratively with professional peers, to relate well to high-end annual prospects and donors and to demonstrate professional customer service.
• Ability to work independently and establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with faculty, staff, and others as appropriate.
• Ability to communicate and work effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds and cultures.
• Commitment to and experience promoting diversity and equity.
• Ability to attend meetings, game day functions, and other DAF functions as a representative of the Duck Athletic Fund; ability to attend athletic events in varying environments including inclement weather.
Preferred Qualifications
• Experience in segmentation and multi-channel solicitation development.
• Experience with Scale Funder, Salesforce, event registration software, TM Engage, and Ticketmaster software.
• Experience with stewardship programs and ability to implement best practices in donor cultivation and stewardship.
• Knowledge of college athletics and college athletics fundraising.
