Department Summary
The Department of Finance, Lundquist College of Business, University of Oregon seeks to fill one faculty position at Instructor, Senior Instructor I, or Professor of Practice of Real Estate. We seek someone with the ability to teach various applied real estate courses, including but not limited to real estate finance, real estate investment analysis, real estate development, commercial real estate, real estate valuation methods, and real estate market analysis. Our preference is to find an individual who has significant prior experience working in the real estate industry.
Employment may begin as early as spring term (March 2025), or no later than September 16, 2025. This is a 9-month instructional contract. Summer opportunities may be available.
Position Summary
Responsibilities for this position include:
1. This position will teach up to eight (8) graduate or undergraduate courses. Courses may be related to commercial real estate, including areas such as finance, investment, and development. Course load can be adjusted based on additional scholarship and/or other duties assigned by the department head and approved by the Senior Associate Dean.
2. Service expectations: .20 FTE - activities could include departmental, college, or university committees; responsibilities in recognized professional organizations; service as a club adviser, particularly our Real Estate Investment Group; serving as a liaison with the real estate industry.
3. Research, scholarship and creative activity: although career faculty have no obligation for research or scholarship, a commitment to field-based research in real estate would be valued.
4. Professional development related to teaching and service: professional development conference attendance and staying current in the field are critical.
5. Undergraduate and graduate advising.
6. Student contact and communication: office hours and advising students on group projects.
Minimum Requirements
To quality for an Instructor position:
• Master's degree (or foreign equivalent) in real estate, construction, or business-related discipline
• Ability to teach quantitative courses, as demonstrated by prior teaching expertise, teaching evaluations, or teaching demonstration
For appointment at the rank of Senior Instructor I, candidates must also demonstrate they have six years of teaching experience post-receipt of a master’s degree. The additional teaching experience does not guarantee appointment at the Senior Instructor I rank.
To qualify for a Professor of Practice, candidates must also demonstrate they:
• have a substantial basis of experience equal to a tenured professor (normally a minimum of 12 years) and a national/international reputation for excellence reflected in a record of significant accomplishments,
• have a profile of accumulated professional accomplishments fully congruent with the rank of professor,
• have a rich and extensive background in a field and discipline relevant to the school, college, or unit of appointment at the University of Oregon, and
• can serve as a liaison between the professional field and the University of Oregon.

• Demonstrated time management and organizational skills
• Strong presentation and teaching skills
• Knowledge of instructional design principles and adult learning methodologies
Preferred Qualifications
Preferred Qualifications:
• 3+ years of industry experience in Real Estate
• Real Estate License, State required experience, and/or education to qualify as an instructor
• Experience teaching at both undergraduate and graduate level.
