Department Summary

Position Summary

The Hayward Field Trades Maintenance One position works in the Athletic Facilities unit, pre-dominantly at Hayward Field. At times they will be asked to do work at any of the other Athletics Facilities and at some offsite locations where athletic events take place.

In this capacity, they are completing facility maintenance tasks across a broad range of Trades to include but not limited to painting, plumbing repairs, mechanical repairs, carpentry repairs, and minor electrical. This position will also have responsibilities in grounds maintenance to include but not limited to pressure washing, mowing, edging, weeding, fertilizer application, blowing of grounds, sweeping, surface cleaning, etc. Additionally, the position will event set-up, tear-down, and event support for all events that take place at Hayward Field and other facilities as needed. This will include but is not limited to setting up tables, chairs, track equipment, barricades, signage, rope and station, staging, and other event related equipment. Lastly, this position will assist with janitorial needs throughout the facility.

Special Requirements:
• It is a requirement of this position to qualify for and maintain a UO driver’s certification, which includes maintaining a valid driver’s license throughout employment in this position.
• Willingness to work a flex./irregular work schedule and as a member of the Essential Services Team.
• Must be able to obtain UO Forklift Certification within 90 days of employment.

Minimum Requirements

• One year of experience working in facilities maintenance

• Ability to meet the physical requirements of this position as listed under "Working conditions."
• Ability to perform major duties and operate necessary equipment as outlined in this posting.
• Computer skills: Need to be able to communicate with email both sending and receiving.
• Ability to understand and provide clear verbal and written communication to faculty, staff, and students with a variety of diverse backgrounds and cultures.
• Ability to read and interpret documents, such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
• Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
• Ability to interface and work effectively in a team environment with co-workers, customers, vendors and university staff, focusing on customer service.
• Ability to work independently without direct supervision and willingness to work as part of a team when necessary.
• Ability to operate and respond to 2-way radio communication
• Ability to prioritize work duties and adapt to requests from Hayward occupants.

Preferred Qualifications

• Two years of documented working in Facility Maintenance
• One year of documented working in Grounds or Janitorial Maintenance
• Experience setting up, working and tearing down events
• Documented Forklift, Scissor lift or Boom lift experience.
