This position needs someone with energy and passion to complement our existing development team, to contribute to our existing projects as well as work on strategic new projects. In this role you must have a desire to deliver high quality output within challenging timeline. The ability to hit the deck running and make valuable contributions quickly will be critical.

0-12 months you’ll deliver

  • Drive excellent technical decision-making across the data platform’s infrastructure and deployment services by spotting the gaps, connecting the dots and looking ahead
  • Mentor and guide the Platform Engineering team to embrace end-to-end ownership, and work on tough technical challenges
  • Champion engineering culture through your practical knowledge of patterns and ways of working
  • Introduce new technologies, lead experiments, and build Proof-of-Concepts to drive innovation
  • Owning the relationship with AWS and third-party vendors, liaising with the account managers and technical account managers (TAM)
  • Researching, testing and recommending best practice DevOps techniques as these fast moving technologies develop, keeping Newday at the forefront  
  • Maintaining and enhancing the existing DevOps principles and ensuring they are adhered to within the team 

What you’ll bring

  • Proven track record of owning technologies end-to-end, covering not only writing the code, but enabling all the work before and after
  • Can communicate complex ideas to audiences from a wide variety of backgrounds and levels of technical expertise
  • Demonstrated ability to mentor and develop platform engineers and technical leads by building relationships and sharing valuable insights into their work, and show new directions
  • Expert knowledge of streaming and batch data infrastructure and services within an AWS and third-party PaaS and/or Cloud Native context
  • Expert knowledge of Infrastructure as Code (Terraform, YAML)
  • Expert with containerization and containerized workflows (Kubernetes)
  • In-depth understanding of DevOps and enthusiastic about continuous integration and deployment methodologies, nonfunctional requirements and processes of high-quality software engineering
  • Strong knowledge of computer networks including cloud networks, corporate networks (Firewalls, Proxies, and VPCs) and AWS networks (Direct Connect, Route 53, Auto scaling, CloudWatch, GuardDuty, Network Firewall)
  • In-depth understanding of cloud platform security practices and recognised standards and protocols for authentication, and authorisation
  • Experience with functional, data-flow programming in Python or a similar language

And would love you to know or learn:

  • Fluency in ETL processes, data ingestion & pipeline knowledge, schema registry, data catalogs, eventing, and streaming analytics
