The Opportunity 

As the Professional Standards Manager, reporting directly to General Counsel, you will be at the forefront of managing and enhancing our professional standards and complaints handling function. This role will see you collaborating with key stakeholders across the business to ensure our legal professional standards are unparalleled. With your strategic approach to professional standards risk management this is an opportunity where you will make a real impact. 

This is a 12-month fixed-term position based in vibrant Melbourne, with opportunities for some interstate travel. We welcome applications for part-time work (minimum of 3 days a week). 

What’s involved: 

  • Uplift our professional standards function and continuously improve practice management processes. 

  • Implement best practices and innovative solutions to enhance case selection, client experience, and service delivery. 

  • Review and optimize the use of systems and technology to minimize professional risk and promote consistency. 

  • Design and deliver impactful training programs for lawyers and non-lawyers on case selection, professional standards, risk management, and practice management. 

  • Drive a culture of continuous improvement and professional development. 

  • Implement and update our professional standards audit system, providing qualitative audits and assurance. 

  • Establish systems and processes to ensure compliance with relevant laws, regulations, and ethical standards. Monitor changes in legislation and industry standards. 

The experience we are looking for: 

  • Visionary leadership. 

  • High proficiency in managing professional risk with precision. 

  • Exceptional client service outcomes. 

  • Stay ahead of changing regulations, technology, and industry standards. 

  • Demonstrate a strong understanding of professional standards and risk management in the legal industry. 

  • Delivery through collaboration and clear communication.  

  • Tech savvy in practice management software and technology. 

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities. 

  • As an SME you have a senior level of experience in post admission, either in a client-facing or internal law firm or compliance role.  

  • Bachelor’s degree in law (LLB) or equivalent. Additional qualifications in business management or risk management are advantageous.
