About the role

We’re offering an exciting opportunity for a motivated Trainee Legal Assistant to join our dedicated Abuse Law team on a full-time, 12-month contract. Based in our Melbourne CBD office, you’ll contribute meaningfully by supporting a diverse and impactful caseload of Abuse Law matters.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Answer incoming client enquiries and assist or transfer calls where appropriate
  • Provide accurate updates and information to clients within a timely manner and manage expectations
  • Manage the administration of client files from open to close
  • Produce client correspondence and documents
  • Prepare Court documents and briefs
  • Liaise with Courts, barristers, defendant solicitors and doctors
  • Arrange and manage diaries, appointments and meetings
  • Action incoming and outgoing mail
  • Prepare bills for clients
  • Any other generalist administrative tasks as requested

Key Selection Criteria:

  • Demonstrated interest in pursuing a career in the legal field, ideally with exposure to Personal Injuries law through study, internship, or work experience
  • Compassionate, resilient, and emotionally mature to engage with sensitive and challenging subject matter
  • Strong organisational and time management skills, with a willingness to learn and improve
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks, prioritise effectively, and remain calm under pressure
  • Willingness to work independently with guidance, and collaboratively within a team environment
  • Proactive attitude with enthusiasm and initiative to take on new challenges
  • Comfortable in fast-paced environments and committed to meeting deadlines
  • High attention to detail and accuracy in all work
  • Clear and professional communication skills – verbal, written, and interpersonal
  • Ability to build rapport and maintain respectful relationships with clients, colleagues, and stakeholders
  • Sound judgement and awareness of when to escalate issues or seek support from supervisors
  • Basic proficiency in Microsoft Office suite, with a willingness to develop technical skills further
