The Opportunity
 
The Principal Environmental Adviser- Energy and Lithium will be responsible for assisting in the delivery of environmental approvals across our MinRes mine sites and providing technical advice for all aspects of mining operations.
 
You will play integral part to ensure continuity of operational projects by providing approvals support for our onsite development activities across our lithium and Energy projects. Your expertise will play a key component to our business by engaging with a range of internal and external stakeholders to drive approval process.
 
In this position, you will report directly to the Manager of Approvals You will be based at our HQ office in Osborne Park, and on occasions, oversee projects onsite.
 
Key responsibilities:
• Responsible for undertaking the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) and approvals processes to ensure the timely delivery of regulatory approvals under Petroleum and Geothermal Energy Resources Act, Petroleum Pipelines Act, Mining Act, Parts IV and V of Environmental Protection Act, the Federal Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act, as required for exploration and operational projects
• Responsible for managing completion of Project Definition Forms for new projects and significant amendments, where appropriate – escalate where required information not provided in line with approvals schedules
• Responsible for ensuring preparation of Execution Plans and project schedules that are achievable based on available resources and benchmarked assessment timeframes, considering project complexity
• Communicate with internal stakeholders to obtain project information to enable planning of environmental studies, and preparation of approval applications – escalate where required information not provided in line with approvals schedules
• Developing project specific and Business Unit (Energy and Lithium) approval strategies in collaboration with Manager Approvals and respective General Managers and Planning teams
• Responsible for ensuring biological surveys are undertaken to support environmental approvals
• Identify and document extent of biological survey areas required for Commodity group (i.e. Energy or Lithium) and communicate to the Manager Environmental Approvals, and the Principal Biodiversity.
• Responsible for relationship with consultants conducting environmental studies in accordance with agreed timeframes
• Responsible for deliverables from consultants preparing environmental approval documents to support approvals for assigned projects, including review and quality control of consultant deliverables
• Develop appropriate templates for approvals documents and management plans to deliver high quality applications
• Responsible for addressing RFI requests within timeframes agreed with regulator 
• Report to Manager and internal stakeholders at agreed frequency on progress and status of works associated with baseline studies and approvals documentation
• Responsible for ensuring Smartsheet dashboards are developed and maintained for key work areas
• Manage change management processes - ensure material changes to scope are documented and communicated within 2 weeks
• Responsible for ensuring critical approvals risks are documented, assigned and mitigation identified.
• Liaise with relevant external stakeholders/regulators to ensure all approvals are delivered on time
 
What is required
• Bachelor’s degree or higher in Environmental Science / Engineering or related field 
• Extensive experience with environmental operational, consulting or EIA related role within the energy or mining sector
• Comprehensive understanding and ability to interpret environmental legislation, guidelines, standards and other requirements
• Demonstrated experience providing strategic and operational environmental advice across all business levels
• Ability to characterise and assess project and operational risks and determine appropriate management measures consistent with the risk profile
• Experience managing competing priorities in a fast-paced environment, including conflict resolution
• On-site operational environmental experience including management processes, compliance activities and reporting
• Demonstrated ability to work within large multi-disciplinary teams and strong stakeholder engagement ability.
• Ability to communicate effectively and constructively with senior business leaders and other technical stakeholders.
• Strong oral and written communication.
