About This Role:

The Department of Applied Human Sciences, within the College of Health and Human Sciences, is seeking a Child Care Aide to join their team at the Center for Child Development for the summer. This position assists teachers with ensuring the care and safety of children through performing a variety of tasks designed to meet their physical, emotional, and educational needs. The Child Care Aide follows directions given by teachers and shares concerns regarding children, students, or the center, with the teacher or director. This position reports to the Center’s Program Manager.

Duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Assist teachers in maintaining a positive learning environment, both indoors and outdoors, that fosters development in motor, cognitive, language, social, emotional, and creative domains
  • Provide emotional support to children while being sensitive to their needs
  • Supervise activities to ensure the safety of children
  • Assist in the arrangement and upkeep of classroom, including all classroom equipment and materials, on a daily basis
  • Assist in the kitchen and with meal prep as needed
  • Model and maintain confidentiality in and outside of the classroom setting in regard to children, parents, staff, students and volunteers

NOTE:  This is a part-time, temporary summer position and is not benefits eligible. Selected candidates will be expected to work approximately 18 hours per week.

The Center for Child Development (CCD) serves as the clinical training site for students enrolled in the state-approved and nationally accredited undergraduate preservice teacher education program in early childhood education; provides quality childcare to K-State and the larger campus community; is accredited by the National Academy of Early Childhood Programs of the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC); is licensed by the Kansas Department of Health and Environment (KDHE); and meets high quality food service standards of the Child and Adult Care Food Program.

The College of Health and Human Sciences is home to six academic departments (Applied Human Sciences; Food, Nutrition, Dietetics & Health; Hospitality Management; Interior Design & Fashion Studies; Personal Financial Planning; and Kinesiology) and three academic units (Interdisciplinary Program in Gerontology, Family and Consumer Sciences Education, and General Human Ecology Studies). In addition, the college received approval from the Kansas Board of Regents to begin a Master of Science in Physician Assistant Studies program. What You’ll Need to Succeed:

Minimum Requirements:

  • High school diploma

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience working with children in an early learning environment
  • Ability to effectively communicate and build positive relationships with children, parents, and colleagues
  • Ability to remain on feet for long periods of time, stoop and bend throughout shift, and sit on floor
  • Ability to work inside and outside under varying work and climatic conditions
  • Ability to be flexible with work schedule

Other Requirements:

  • Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the United States at the time of employment
  • Ability to pass a name based and finger print background check, physical assessment and TB Test
  • Ability to lift/move items up to 25 pounds unassisted on a repetitive basis
