About This Role:

Kansas State University is hiring for a Director of the Administrative Support Center (ASC). The Director provides direction and oversight to the ASC, including managing the daily activities of the financial and human resource teams. This position also leads the detailed transition activities for units adopting into the ASC shared service model.

The ASC is a university shared services center that provides budget, financial, and administrative, human resource services to central administrative units. Currently, the ASC supports the President's Office, Provost Office, and all other Vice President offices for the university. The ASC comprises 24 employees, and the Director has four direct reports.

The Director will be responsible for the following duties:

  • Leads the administrative shared services transition initiative. In coordination with the Assistant Vice President, Business Operations and Planning, the Director will develop the relevant transition plan, coordinate timeline and staffing with unit heads, and facilitate the change management for incoming departments.
  • Manages business operations and strategic planning for the department, manages staff, establishes and implements department goals and procedures.
  • Provides staff supervision: evaluates job performance, plans, and participates in staff development.
  • Manages the activities, including purchasing, encumbering, voucher payments, travel reimbursements, cash deposits, monthly reconciliation, and monthly financial reports.
  • Manages university-wide construction accounting responsibilities to ensure compliance with state and university policies.
  • Provides budget development support and serves as a financial liaison to ASC-supported departments' units and department heads.
  • Oversee human resources processes for the units supported by the ASC.
  • Work collaboratively with the Budget Office, Division of Financial Services (DFS), and Human Capital Services (HCS) to coordinate efforts and ensure the financial and HR functions are completed according to university policies and processes.
  • Works collaboratively with the unit and department heads to ensure the financial and HR activities are completed in a timely and efficient manner for support departments.
  • Identifies efficiencies and streamline business processes for the ASC.

What You'll Need to Succeed:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Requires a bachelor's degree and five or more years of relevant experience in finance, accounting, human resources, or related field
  • Experience supervising staff and coaching employees for improved performance and professional development

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience serving as a financial manager
  • Experience working in higher education or governmental agencies
  • Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of advanced financial, accounting, and budgeting principles and procedures
  • Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of state and federal human resource laws and regulations
  • Demonstrated ability to execute and integrate complex financial analysis and prepare comprehensive capital/operating budget summaries and projections
  • Demonstrated ability to design and develop complex financial models
  • Demonstrated project management skills to develop, plan, and implement short- and long-range goals
  • Demonstrated skills and abilities to examine and re-engineer operations and procedures, to formulate and to develop and implement new strategies and procedures
  • Knowledge of the K-State Budget, Financial and Human Capital Services (HCS) practices, procedures, systems or technologies
  • Demonstrated customer service skills and ability to foster a culture that promotes a positive customer experience
  • Demonstrated ability to exercise wise judgment, discretion as appropriate, and an understanding of applying confidentiality to work
  • Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to effectively initiate collaboration and communicate professionally with diverse individuals and groups at all levels

Anticipated Hiring Salary Range:

$80,000 - $100,000 annually
