About This Role:

The Department of Animal Sciences and Industry is the largest department (approximately 1,100 undergraduates and 150 graduate students) in Kansas State University’s College of Agriculture. We are seeking applicants for a 12-month, tenure-track position (70% Extension, 30% Research). The position will be at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor and located in Manhattan, KS. The successful individual is expected to develop an innovative and impactful extension program addressing issues facing the Kansas and U.S. beef cow-calf industry. Research focus will be consistent with the successful individual’s expertise, and participation in interdisciplinary research and extension team efforts is strongly encouraged. Kansas State University cow/calf resources include the Department of Animal Sciences and Industry’s commercial cow/calf and purebred herds located on campus, as well as two commercial herds located at Research and Extension Centers in Hays and Parsons, Kansas.

What You’ll Need to Succeed:

Position Description and Responsibilities: The successful individual will:

  • Develop and maintain high-quality and innovative beef cattle extension and research programs
    • Communicate with and engage clientele, extension agents, faculty, and support personnel
    • Develop impactful information transfer approaches, such as in-person programs, factsheets, newsletters, bulletins, videos, internet-based communications, and radio/TV
  • Foster relationships with producers, industry and governmental organizations, and leaders in the Kansas and U.S. beef industry
  • Provide leadership and/or participate in team-oriented extension and research programs and contribute to youth outreach programs
  • Direct M.S. and Ph.D. graduate students
  • Complete other tasks as necessary to support the overall mission of the Department
  • Promote a multicultural environment by fostering diversity, teamwork, and inclusivity

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Earned doctorate (at time of employment) in Animal Sciences or related discipline with an emphasis on beef cattle
  • Practical knowledge and experience with beef cow-calf production
  • Committed to develop an effective and impactful extension program
  • Ability to develop a research program, garner extramural funding, and train graduate students

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Knowledge and experience of beef cattle grazing and production systems
  • Proven academic publication record that is consistent with experience level
  • Ability to create, communicate, and conduct effective educational programs
  • Desire and ability to work in a multi-disciplinary team environment and advance the University’s commitment to collegiality, diversity, and inclusivity

Other Requirements:

  • Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the United States at the time of employment
  • Access to a personal vehicle and the ability to obtain/maintain a valid driver’s license
