Maintenance and Repair Tech II

 

About This Role:

The Maintenance and Repair Technician II position offers the opportunity to apply maintenance and repair skills in a large residence hall.  The work provides regular interactions with others, including student residents, and offers a community type work environment with an opportunity to apply strong maintenance, repair, and customer service skills.  If you take pride in your work, are conscientious, and have a commitment to quality and service, you may be a fit in our Housing and Dining Services (HDS) family. 

Duties include:

  • Diagnose, service and maintain plumbing and electrical systems and equipment including drain lines, flush valves, shower valves, sink and lavatory components; electrical outlets and switches.  Resets circuit breakers. 
  • Test and maintains fire alarm and emergency lighting systems and complete other maintenance and repairs as needed. 
  • Independently troubleshoot, maintain, and repair specialized equipment and building systems using technical knowledge of electrical, HVAC, plumbing, electronic climate controls.  Services and maintains building systems.  Assists in adjusting heating and cooling controls.
  • Coordinate with other departmental trades staff to alter, maintain and diagnose plumbing and electrical problems in mechanical and other building systems, air handling equipment, air ducts, dampers and other environmental controls. 
  • Perform other duties to include selecting, organizing, cleaning and storing equipment and tools, and maintaining records.  
  • Repair and service building hardware and custodial equipment.  Make minor furniture repairs and adjustments.

Worksite Options:

The service nature of this position requires work on-site.  Work is performed on employer premises or designated assignment location.

What You’ll Need to Succeed:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Requires one year of relevant experience
  • Various training and/or certification may be required
  • Education may be substituted for experience as determined relevant by a hiring manager

Preferred Qualifications:

  • High school graduation/GED
  • Journeyman level experience in plumbing, electrical, HVAC or other mechanical trade
  • Strong troubleshooting skills
  • Effective oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to interact with customers effectively
  • Knowledge of safety regulations

Other Requirements:

  • Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the United States at the time of employment.
  • Valid driver’s license upon employment.
