Business Manager

About This Role

This position conducts fiscal and budget support functions to assist with the administration of financial and business transactions for the Office of the Provost and reporting units. This position provides reports for both internal and external groups on a regular basis, as well as reports based on special requests and projects. The incumbent performs high-level accounting and administrative functions and is expected to recommend and implement innovative enhancements for transfer process, payroll and accounting systems.

The duties of this position are complex and distinct; they require analytical thought, independent judgment, teamwork and careful interpretation of the State of Kansas and university policies and procedures to ensure efficiency in the financial and administrative operations and to meet the business needs of the Office of the Provost.

What You'll Need to Succeed

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree or educational equivalent
  • Three years of relevant experience

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Five years of experience in accounting or finance
  • Experience with complex accounting processes
  • Experience with development of business plans, memorandums of agreement, financial forecasting, budgeting, financial reporting and analysis
  • Advanced computer skills using Microsoft Office (to include Word, Access, Excel and PowerPoint), web-based calendar and email
    collaboration software
  • University or academic experience with knowledge of Kansas State University
  • Excellent accounting, mathematical and computer skills
  • Knowledge of accounting principles, practices and standards
  • Ability to process information with a high degree of accuracy
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Ability to create reports from available data to answer business questions
  • Ability to understand and grasp complex funding arrangements
  • Demonstrated dependability and customer service experience
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to organize, prioritize and proceed on own initiative and pay close attention to detail
  • Ability to understand, interpret and implement policy and procedures and to problem solve effectively
  • Ability to work with a large client group and to establish and maintain effective working relationships
  • Ability to use critical thinking to analyze and interpret data and information
  • Ability to determine deadlines, set priorities and meet established timelines
  • Demonstrated ability to manage projects from inception to completion
  • Ability to analyze and improve existing procedures for functionality
  • Discretion in handling confidential information and materials
