Academic Advisor

About This Role

The Exploratory Academic Advisor plays a crucial role in supporting students in their academic and career exploration journey. This position involves working closely with the student population of students who have not declared an academic major or are in the process of exploring new or different academic pathways. The advisor assists students in identifying their interests, strengths, and goals, and provides guidance on appropriate majors and career options.  This is a full-time, 12-month contracted position.

This position reports to the director of pre-professional and exploratory advising within the department of Academic and Career Engagement.

About Us

The Pre-Professional and Exploratory Advising Center provides guidance and programming to encourage students to explore professional fields and prepare for a competitive application to professional programs such as law, medicine, pharmacy, physical therapy, physician assistant, dentistry, occupational therapy, nursing, veterinary medicine and more.

The Exploratory Studies program at K-State provides a proactive and reflective approach to exploring and deciding on academic majors and career paths.

What You'll Need to Succeed

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • One year of relevant experience

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in counseling, higher education, student affairs, academic advising, or a related field.
  • Three (3) or more years’ experience in higher education, academic advising, student services, or career counseling.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of academic programs, university policies, and procedures.
  • Familiarity with career assessment tools and resources.
  • Strong interpersonal and teamwork skills.
  • Ability to meet deadlines, be detail oriented, and prioritize.
  • Proficient in using student success technologies and Microsoft Office suite.
  • Ability to effectively communicate with a broad range of constituents.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Strong personal computer skills
  • Familiarity with student information systems and learning management systems

Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the U.S. on an ongoing basis without sponsorship

Anticipated Hiring Pay Range

$42,216.00 - $52,764.00
