Research Associate

About This Role

The Division of Biology and Kansas Cooperative Fish and Wildlife Research Unit at Kansas State University are seeking a full-time Research Associate to join an extensive research program beginning August or September 2025. The successful applicant will be responsible conducting advanced and novel analyses of animal movement and habitat use data. The position is a twelve-month appointment renewable after one year depending on available funding, with opportunities for additional training in advance analytics. Other responsibilities may include presentation of research results at professional meetings and at the request of research sponsors. Opportunities for mentoring graduate students conducting independent research projects also may be available.

The Division of Biology awards undergraduate degrees in three areas (Biology, Microbiology, and Fisheries, Wildlife & Conservation Biology) and currently serves over six hundred majors. The Kansas Cooperative Fish and Wildlife Unit conducts applied wildlife research throughout Kansas.  Kansas State University is located in the city of Manhattan (http://www.ci.manhattan.ks.us), a pleasant community of just over 50,000 located in the scenic Flint Hills of northeastern Kansas, about 2 hours from Kansas City. Local recreational opportunities include a large lake/park system, diverse outdoor activities, athletic events, and a rich program in the performing arts. Manhattan also serves as the regional center for education, health care, commerce, entertainment, and communications.

Worksite Option

This position is hybrid or remote

This role can be performed 100% remotely with expectations of 2-3 routine and scheduled meetings during the work week.  These meetings will include work planning with supervisor, research group discussions and presentation of results, and research sponsor updates.

An employee who is working remotely must reside within the United States in order to comply with all federal and state laws, filings, or tax requirements. What You'll Need to Succeed

Minimum Qualifications:

  • M.S. degree in Biology, Natural Resources, Statistics or equivalent field. Demonstrated quantitative and modelling skills

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience using statistical software - Understanding of ecological concepts, movement models, and space use estimates
  • Working knowledge of ESRI geodatabases and ArcPro, including ability to create and maintain feature class relationships
  • Proficiency with Program R and associated animal movement and space use packages
  • Strong written and oral communication skills with the ability to interface with a variety of academic specialties
