Academic Coach

About This Role

The Academic Coach will play an integral role in the retention and persistence of students across the K-State campus. Academic Coaches use asset-based coaching frameworks to center conversations around student strengths and promoting actionable solutions to decrease barriers for college achievement. In this role, the coach will work closely with college partners and use lead indicator data to identify, outreach and connect students to appropriate campus resources.

The position will be part of a four-member coaching team that is responsible for creating an environment of student ownership, action and success, as well as utilizing key reporting and dashboards to identify and proactively support students.

Academic Coaches utilize an individual, goal based coaching cycle where students self- identify areas of academic need to focus on during one-on-one meetings. The Academic Coach will work across a wide range of socioeconomic, cultural and geographic student backgrounds. Academic coaches apply an asset-based lens to strengthen existing student skills and adapt evidence-based academic skills to help students move through their university experience.

Responsibilities will include facilitating conversations with college partners, monitoring leading indicator data to activate key moments of outreach, engage in coaching conversations around student goals and/or removing barriers to success, and serving as an accountability partner and referring students to additional campus partners.  

This role will engage in multiple means of communication including the capacity to report notes and contacts in digital notes system. The Academic Coach in this position will participate in continuous training and professional development to remain informed on existing and emerging strategies to promote student retention and academic success.

Worksite Option

This position is onsite. This role is expected to be performed on-site five (5) days a week

What You'll Need to Succeed

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree
  • One year of relevant experience

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in counseling, learning psychology, student development, academic advising, or related field
  • Excellent written and verbal skills, with an ability to work efficiently with student success offices across campus.
  • 1-3 years of work experience in an educational environment, including higher education, K-12 education, advising or counseling.
  • Experience in working with college students in a role to support them in the development of tools, skills and dispositions needed for academic and personal success.
  • Experience working with technology, particularly student learning and information management systems, interpreting data sets, and data management.

Anticipated Hiring Pay Range

$42,216.00 - $53,819.00
